    The poll is over and Try3 won. Please lets not have discussions about whether the decision was right or not.

    I have organised dev2.dprevived.com into a potential final layout. We now have 4 headings and a total of 39 forums for photography (plus a few at the bottom for DPRevived discussions & misc). It's divided into News & discussion, Genres, Techniques, and Photo gear.

    Please pop over there and have a look. You can't log in or post - it's just for you to look at the format and layout and tell me what is missing or wrong.

    So, what do you think going forward? Too much, too little, just right?

    Since you say this is (potentially) final, there's still an Oly MFT forum but not a Panasonic MFT forum. There ought to be both or one common one. Both is preferred since traditionally the forum "styles" have been quite different.

    Alan,

    It looks very good -- thanks for your hard work!

    I have just a few suggestions for changes to the main headings:

    DPRevived Forums --> All Forums
    Photography Genres --> Photographic Genres
    Photography Techniques --> Photographic Techniques

    So, we lost the Documentary and Street and the Film Photography forums???

    Nice improvement, and simplification, it has become much more readable 😊
    I can now perceive the whole on a single page. 👍
    THANKS

    An overall win for simplicity. I echo the @TheDavinator concern regarding “documentary and street”, I see no particular need for “film” as a genre, but would like to see it recognized as a technique, and I am still somewhat concerned about lumping all operating systems together (if those forums are to grow and flourish)…

    "Please consider"… but I can live with this.

    I agree with these suggestions. Also, some forums have the word 'talk' in their description. Seems unnecessary.
    i'll have a look at a few things and may follow them up.

    but looks good indeed

    Thanks Alan and everyone else involved! It looks a lot better in my opinion. Of course I'm not familiar with all the subs and their exact definitions/meaning, but I think I agree about "documentary and street photography" missing. I'm not sure about "Film Photography" because don't you usually shoot all of the other genres on film as well? Most technical things concerning film should fit in the "Film based equipment" anyway and if someone wants to talk about all intricacies of shooting film, I doubt a board with "digital' in the name is the best alternative anyway...

    Maybe I don't get the differences there as someone not familiar with certain genres, but for my understanding "Trip/Location/Photo Walk" could just be integrated into "Landscape and Travel Photography". And isn't "Pots & Gardens" covered with the word "Nature" in "Nature and Wildlife Photography"?

    I seem to recall you already mentioning, that the forum names will be unified in a second step (so no more "talk" and perhaps deleting a couple of unnecessary uses of "photography", uniformity in using upper-case and lower-case etc.). If that's the case I assume you're already aware of most of these potential changes.

    I also assume the DPRevived forums "Headline" won't be part of the final version, or did I miss something in that regard? I feel like it would be confusing. I also got a couple of thoughts about the size of the navigation, the logo, the claim (The community-run digital...) etc. but I'm sure someone's already thinking about alternatives for these things behind the scenes (maybe @lefteye )?

    Again - thanks for all your work and the courage it takes trying to give this interesting site its own identity! 👍👍👍

    Under "Photo Equipment" I would prefer to see just the manufacturers' names in the category title, not what they make. If their products MUST be shown, that shgoud be in sub-categories. I particularly dislike "L-mount" being tacked on to Panasonic especially when "L-mount" is not an Equipment per se.

    I'll try and respond to all the questions - and thanks for the vote of confidence.

    I would prefer one forum for M43 & 43 rather than two. Would you accept that in the interests of reducing the number of forums?

    Yes, happy to change those.

    [edit] - Documentary & street has been moved in with Architecture. Do you want it separated? Film is in the gear section - maybe we need to move that to techniques.

    The names all need tidying up. I'll do that when I sort out the other stuff.

    Yes, we could merge those. Thanks for the idea.

    All ideas gratefully received, but we are looking into the look of it - nothing concrete yet and we will let you know before we finalise it. What do you mean by 'Headline'?

    That is possible - but is it just you that feels that way (see my reply above). If the majority want separate Olympus & Panasonic forums, we can do that. [Edit], I've done that for now to see what it looks like.

    Did I miss anything?

    Street and documentary are different from architecture. Mostly about people and events. Not necessary to have any architecture in them. They need to be separated I'd think.

    OK - done.

    Do we need operating systems at all? We have a forum on post processing.

    Film isn’t gear…it’s film. The film cameras have nothing to do with film processing and scanning. Street photography isn’t architecture. Totally unrelated.

    I don’t feel that strongly that we do. I have other resources for tech and, for me, these forums are more give than take on camera sites. Questions do seem to arise though. What say others?
