Personally, I never use the word workflow: and I would suggest that it is too generic to mean anything. (Discussions on the order in which to set Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO?) I think The Digital Darkoom -- Tools and Methods would do the trick, assuming it is not too wordy.

    Hi,

I called it Lightroom back in the days of the Kodak DCS 460 the files from which were processed using Photoshop 4 and a TWAIN driver.

But, maw dang, I forgot to copyright the term. ;)

Now it's trademarked so we can't use it.

OK. I had some time to spare, so I've made some minor updates based on the feedback above.

Have a look at dev2.dprevived.com to see the potential new layout. Don't worry too much if the name of the forum is too long. Arvo has some ideas on fixing that. And I will tidy up the actual names so they are consistant. I've put in some brief text under each master heading - these can be reworded, but it gives you an idea of what to expect.

Download version 3 of my migration spreadsheet which shows which threads from old forums will go to which new forums. There's two versions, one with compact cameras generally staying with the manufacturer and one (v3-1) which has compact camera threads all going into "Compact/Bridge".
    Tell me which you prefer.

But in general, I hope that's it. We have until the middle of next week to finalise this - and I am away for 3-4 days over the weekend (although I will log in to look at discussions).

Sorry Alan, I still don't get why "L-mount Systems" remains as a 'master heading' now that 4/3 and µ4/3 will move to under their respective manufacturers. In fact, I wonder why lens mounts have anything at all to do with the new direction that this site is taking which I understand is to be less gear-oriented ...

Only because I have no idea what consitutes 'L mount'. So, what cameras use the L mount system? If I can get rid of a forum, so much the better.

    Leica Camera, Sigma, and Panasonic

Thanks! All of those are covered separately, so that sounds pretty redundant then, unless I'm missing something...

I'm happy to remove L mount and I'll try and move any existing threads to the appropriate target forums.

So where is someone to go who wants to use a Sigma lens for L on a Panasonic L and a Leica L camera (all these exist, even though not in huge numbers)..?

Or a Panasonic lens for L on a Sigma fp?

Or a Panasonic lens for µ4/3 on an Olympus µ4/3?

If one takes a picture with or has a question/statement about an L-mount lens on a Panasonic then one goes to the Panasonic category.

If one takes a picture with or has a question/statement about an L-mount lens on a Leica then one goes to the Leica category.

It's all to do with hierarchy, Robert.

If your suggestion is to keep the hardware-oriented L-mount "System" main category, then we should also have 4/3, µ4/3, M, E, F, SA, etc.

Yes I think it would be better if things were organised around the mount, not the brand: camera, lens and adapter that can be used together. Logical, not hierarchical. But I'm obviously in the minority, so be it

We did. in the poll, offer a version that was mount and sensor size oriented. But the majority didn't want that.

I just realized that Operating Systems Talk is only a short step away from the dumpster. 😧

I think this has been all talked out. Time to make the change and see how it flies.

I'm away until Monday afternoon. It will get done when I get back (Tues/Wed I expect).
    Steps should be:

    1. Produce a migration and test spreadsheet (aka tick list).
    2. Backup the existing database
    3. Turn the system read-only and put in a message saying why
    4. Do the work
    5. Turn the system back on again
    6. Wait for the complaints that something got missed 😁

I'm in favor of the Mount organization, if that counts ONE.

For sure I didn't get that: what I saw was a page with a lot of unrelated boxes

( it was not organized in Excell!!!!)

    Alain,

We showed 4 different options in the dev2 web site which people could look at and then choose one option. From that, I did my spreadsheet based on what people had chosen. The poll was up for 5 days. I'm sorry if you didn't see it in those 5 days, but the decision has been made now and I'm not changing it.

Dev2 (dev2.dprevived.com) now shows what the final forum site should look like, without the updates to tidy up the forum names (I'm only doing that when I update the real site).

I have missed the debate as I have been away on holiday. Looks pretty good in the now reduced form.
