I am happy with the results I am getting with my FZ300. Those are all hand held at full zoom (600mm efl) with no pp. But if I compare them to shots taken with larger sensors I can clearly see the differences, especially shots taken with quality lenses - but they are so expensive...

The gotcha with the FZ300 is that it needs good light. If you look at my Brown Falcon pics, taken later afternoon, you can see lots of noise creeping in (even though I kept ISO low - I don't think it matters. Low light is low light on extra small light receptors).

I agree the violet flowers (its a Jacaranda tree) add a lot to the shots. Funny thing was, I stopped there to take shots of an old country church, and noticed the birds while I was there.

Hi Bryan, I saw your brown falcon images and I noticed the noise when it was enlarged. If you shot in raw and put them through a good raw converter, I'm pretty sure you would have very clean looking images. I normally don't like making pixel peeping observations, but you brought up the noise in the images so I commented.

Yes for sure, your comments are welcome. I don't yet have any higher end pp software and am struggling to find time to learn the ins and outs of pp (I just use the basics in FastStone). I do shoot in raw + jpeg so I will have them for a rainy day.

You can download a free trial of DXO Photolab and give it a try. Without even doing anything to your images and letting the raw software do all of the work with deep prime the brown falcon images would look great. I also use a raw converter called ACDSee. The noise reduction isn't as good as DXO, but for most images it's good enough for me. I have an older computer and DXO Prime takes a long time.
