Found this while looking for something else and thought it might do for cross-eyed 3D:
Done by G'MIC in the GIMP. Just started playing with 3D ... not happy with the glasses thing (anaglyph?) nor the Single Image Stereogram which my eyes can't cope with.

Excellent 3D capture. I often have trouble getting the crossed eye viewing method to work. For some reason this image is easy for me to view. Well done.

As it happens, I took a cicada post a couple of days ago that I'll probably put on C&C this week, Meanwhile, I've done serious damage to my head trying to make the image here, without glasses, pop into 3d.
Sorry to hear that, Mike. Image is about 150 mm wide on my screen and best when viewing from about 275 mm away ,,, I look without glasses but I am myopic.
Is this a 2D to 3D conversion?
