The link is hung up in LULA's $1 paywall, so we can't read it without joining up. I've read this article (actually downloaded a copy of it when I was a member but won't post it since that may not be legal). It's probably the best and most readable summation of how to critique photos that I've ever seen.

Oh, I'm sorry. I'll remove it and replace it with something else.
When I access it, it asks me to pay. I close that window off and I can then continue reading. But if others are suffering, I will change it.

No, it actually seems possible for anyone to read it! You just have to close the banner at the top first and then the popup (otherwise they overlap, so you can't reach the close-button).
The whole site (and that article in particular) is majorly lacking in presentation and visual appeal (at least to my senses...) so I'm glad I read the high praise by @minniev which will likely convince me to give the contents a chance! That's another reason why discussion of external articles is a worthwhile thing in my opinion.

Oddly, I can get past the Paywall on my computer but not on my iPad. I'd say leave it up.
LULA is an old site, and has not updated their presentation, so it has the visual appeal of 15-20 years ago. But the quality of articles and photographic offerings is still good.

I found Alain Briot's style rather bombastic but then I've never liked being told what to do, as opposed receiving suggestions - especially in this genre, grump.

I managed to see it once. I returned for a better look, and I got the paywall.
Judging a picture is a difficult buisness, that I have mixed feelings about. I tend to judge content and simple technical issues above all else. The rest is really a gut feeling I get from looking at a photograph. It moves me some way or it does not.
If I comment on a picture I always try to do it kindly, with suggestions rather than diktats.
Funnily enough I do not care for Briots pictures, I find them too oversaturated for my tastes.
