Developing black and white film at home

Then you know that they are low risk as long as standard lab safety procedures are followed including DON'T EAT OR DRINK IN THE LAB 🤣
Developing film at home is fun and rewarding but the kitchen is a not the place to do it. Laundry or bathroom would be better.

So, keep that dishwasher soap out of the kitchen.

I have seen film developing thousands of times when I did it by myself.
But I've never seen somebody diluting the fixer after he/she developed the film!

You can recycle that fixer and recover the silver.

Naturally I can. Or I could, after developing. I don't do it anymore.
But when developing the films I had all solutions ready in the right temperature before I started the processing.
So I only changed the solutions in the tank and counted the time.

I see what you mean. Right. All chemicals diluted and in a water bath before the tank is loaded, unless using a Jobo processor.

Multitasking, or as I like to call it, Juggling, (any gender) can be learnt, unfortunately many men find it difficult to switch between tasks.
Men follow a linear reasoning which starts from one point and leads to another. lol

Anyhoo... I'm always right, ain't no one going to change that. lol

I heard that most developers (I use D76) are no more toxic than toilet bowl cleaner. Sure, nothing you would drink but...not particularly toxic to handle. jim

When working in gang darkrooms in my youth, I used to identify chemicals by taste. Dektol tasted like peanut butter. And we all know what stop bath tastes like. Foolish, yes, but no ill effects that I know of. Nobody was using selenium toner in those labs, and i used the finger swirl test to identify Photo Flo, which I'd heard was bad stuff to ingest.

There's substances kept under the kitchen sink that are far deadlier than than the ones I develop film with .
As said , use sensible precautions and the risk is all but removed .

I have used chemicals that need special treatment and PPE that I certainly wouldn't use in a kitchen , but this isn't about them .
The people that are watching the video posted aren't using those chemicals either .
The readily available developers used in the correct manner are safe .

Just to avoid confusion , maybe we should point out that your not using the same utensils that you prepare food and drink with that you prepare the chemicals for developing with .
Likewise , you don't have a jug or orange juice in one hand a jug of developer in the other . That's the common sense bit .
After that , your into natural selection . ;)

Slightly OT but I once worked in a builders yard with someone who would identify chemicals by taste. One day he was trying to work out what was in some unmarked bottles - he took a taste “paraffin”, tasted a different bottle - “mineral oil”, then went to taste a third and then unexpectedly stopped. He then powered some of the liquid on the floor, where it fizzed on the concrete, “brick cleaner” (hydrochloric acid)
