So -- This is not to be a gear forum-I get that(i think-maybe)Exactly what this is to be is a bit confusing. However there are gear forums here with very few participants . Having gear forums set up solely by camera brand instead of separate model forums is a poor idea and clearly a failure.Since this is not to be a gear forum, they should be deleted. They don't work anyway. No one who has a canon dslr, for instance, wants to wade through RF gear posts--- even if there were lots of posts which btw there are not. Any new people stumbling upon this site are probably going to navigate first to the loser gear forums here and say "adios". Unfortunately without gear forums they might have difficulty figuring out exactly what this is.

Always a dilemma. For example, lenses - do you go: lens/mount/maker or do you go: lens/maker/mount?

I lean towards deleting all specific gear fora. My own fave (Sigma) is a failure and I personally don't look at Panasonic even though I own three models thereof.

I do most of my gear-related posting elsewhere, and have been reluctant to dig in too deep here because I’m still somewhat on the fence about staying. However, I feel it would be sufficient to downplay the gear forums on the landing page rather than cull them completely.

I don't think any conclusions can be drawn from the current state of affairs. The active user base is too small. 57 members visited today so far. The few who post of course do it in active threads and forums. As jaberg I'm on the fence and I expect we are not alone.

I'm all for groups broken down via sensor sizes over the manufacturer.

I can understand your motivation, but let gear forums remain intact for now - we will see, which forums will be used, which not. We only lately removed all gear subforums anyway.
Splitting forums by manufacturer versus sensor size - this discussion is already over, manufacturer side won (by not so small margin).

In some future, when Misago adds tags system to forum base software (planned in 2024) we certainly convert gear (and some other) forums to tags.

I didn't quite get that, sorry. Is that really a preference for a separate category for each model e.g. Lumix LX-1 coming under say a category 'camera' which in turn comes under 'gear' i.e. root/gear/camera/Lumix LX-1/threads/posts ...

By "forums" did you mean what are called by the Team "categories"?

I really don't give a rat's butt if it's categories or forums or folders or directories. Silly word games are not the answer. This gear model doesn't work and the DPR model has worked for decades . Check the scoreboard. Do what works or get out of the business.

We are not changing the forum structure yet. As Arvi says, we have to see what works and what the future holds.

So, discussion ends (as far as I am concerned).
