This is the next round of the new series started by ArvoJ asking for your edits of a particular photo, where the viewers can click on "like" to show the versions they prefer.
The version with the most likes is the winner :-)
Closing day this time is 10th September

Here's the rules from Arvo which have been adjusted slightly, and discussed with Arvo

    Now to this weeks photo,...

The photo was taken in 2021 on Lake Irrsee in Austria. It was a sunny afternoon The light was reflecting on the ice and people were out skating, playing hockey or just enjoying walking around. Personally I do my best to avoid stepping on any lake ice, but that is a different story.
The light on that day falling on the surrounding snowy hills and the reflection on the roof looked good too. I wasn’t quite so happy with the composition here; the people are walking to the left but I placed them too far to the left, I think the background further to the left was not so good and I guess I was just too slow😊

This was captured as a Nikon RAW file and I have saved it here as a .JPG without making any changes.
Here is also a dropbox link to the original bigger RAW file and the TIFF file.
I exposed with a shutter speed fast enough to freeze any action of the skaters; some of them were quite fast, and I opened the aperture to give some separation of subject and background, there was enough light around to keep the ISO fairly low. I didn’t want to clip the highlights so reduced the EC, this makes the subjects darker but that can be edited brighter of course. Some of the highlight details are in the “headroom” of the RAW so best to start with that and not the JPG where they will remain blown.
The rest is up to you :-)
    Many thanks!

Please, can you split your different edits into separate posts? It is actually mentioned in the rules, maybe in not the best way :(

/edit: Thank you! I emphasized this requirement in rules too./

This is very good image even without any PP :)

As I have no software to process Nikon files, then I used just jpeg.
I cropped image to bring out skaters - losing interesting landscape, but hopefully shifting image context somewhat.
I attempted to remove CA - did not succeed fully, but some improvement was noticed.
Then I played with colors and image dynamics to make scene even more sunny and light, result is attached.

For quick editing I'm using old german Raw PhotoStudio software - it allows extensive adjustments to color and dynamics, also its cropping interface is good.

Like some of the others, I wanted to isolate the skaters. So a fairly large crop. Then, moved the mid tones, changed the colour balance a bit and increased the saturation and stuff. A reduced size image because I'm on holiday with a fairly slow internet upload.

    Something different this time.

As it sometimes happens - if I have no clear idea, how to process an image, then I start playing with Corel Paintshop Pro effects. This time Glowing Edges seemed to work and give scene some meaning - like "There is nothing safer than the family in the busy and dynamic world".

I have just finally had a chance to look at all your edits on my PC.
Many thanks for all the replies so far!

It’s interesting to see how people have modified it in different ways so far, making results from “natural” to almost “abstract”. It just goes to show how important the editing part of the process is, when considering the total effort needed to create a pleasing image.

I’ll leave my comments on the individual versions until the end 😊
What I might say now is that, from a pixel peeping point of view, it seems that those that have used the Tiff or the RAW file as a basis for their edits have managed to create a result where the highlights have a bit more structure and detail, and the brightened shadow areas seem to have a little less noise 😊
