I currently use a GH5M2 and have been researching cameras for a second M43. I could have used a second GH5M2 for similarity, muscle memory, sharing settings/batteries/etc.

However, I have a need for hi-res photos once in a while ([almost] still subjects). I do not want to buy into a new hi-res FF system for that 1% need. So, I have been looking at M43 cameras with multi-shot hi-res mode (which my GH5M2 does not have).

I have now arrived at GH6. It has a HHHR mode. Gives a 100MP raw file. I downloaded samples and they are editable in DXO PhotoLab.
[I also got a sample from Sony camera but that raw file is not editable in DXO PhotoLab]

I downloaded HR raw images from Panasonic, Oly/OMDS and Sony cameras. I found the correction of small subject movements best in the Panasonic samples.

Price: I found a good offer on a 'like new' GH6 body. I will pay something similar to my GH5M2, less than E-M1.3 new

Pro: 25MP, HHHR, new DR boost, similar UI, controls and settings as my GH5M2, same battery, second card slot is the same type, I already have all the lenses I need

Con: 100+g heavier than my GH5M2, CFE Type B card slot is new to me, and it won't take SD UHS-II card

Besides my need for a second M43 body, the big features of GH6 that attract me are the 25MP, HHHR mode and the DR boost that kicks in automatically from ISO 800 using two parallel output paths combining shadow and highlight detail. These will be helpful for my event shooting in stage lighting conditions.

If you have experience using GH6, could you please comment on the HHHR and DR boost features for stills?

    Thanks,
    Satyaa

I have no experience with the GH6, but yeah, the HHHR & DR boost look like really really interesting features. Especially with the way HHHR deals with moving subjects in the scene. I watched a couple of videos by Sean whatever his name is from Panasonic regarding stills shooting when the GH6 was first released, & it looked like a brilliant stills shooter to me. Very nicely detailed shots, really nice colour, DR looked pretty good to me, don't really care about the 26MP myself, about the only thing that put me off was the size & weight, as I shoot the sum total of zero video, so the features that contribute to that hold no interest to me. I've since purchased 2 G100's, so would take quite a bit to get me to stump up the cash for one now. A photocentric version would want to be no bigger or heavier than my G9, I don't care about phase detect, DFD works plenty good enough for me, and I shoot some pretty fast moving subjects from time to time. Just not birds

My Pany lineup is : gx85, 2 g9's, Gh6. The Gh6 is a beast, however it is large and most of price difference between it and a G9 is significant. I think everytime "will I be shot important video" if so I take the Gh6, if not the G9. Size does matter and the Gh6 is large, takes special batteries and need fast cards (both Cfast and SD) to perform optimally. You will some folks claiming that (only in Vlog) there is purple streaking from the sensor. It is not the sensor, only folks who are idiots when processing (trying to raise shadows or improper processing) the videos not understanding dynamic range and color processing of a lut.

If you understand the size difference (however compare the Gh6 to a pro video camera and it is very small), I'd say go for it now that prices are "reasonable", especially for used cameras. I'll probably sell one of my G9's as four cameras is one too many for me.

Some shots from the Gh6, last one taken to show dynamic range.

BTW when using PL series of lenses, I've found that the 38" wide HHHR images are sharp upto 200% on a 4K monitor. Amazing.

Wow, tilting and articulating screen, that's cool. The best m4/3 camera body right there. My old Olympus C-7070 has a tilting and articulating screen too but a bit small.

Open box item (full warranty) at $1,300 is a good deal for this camera compared to its launch price of $2200. The only complaint I have at this price is that it is a bit heavier than previous GH models, and even compared to some FF models today.
