Is the photo taken from the Charles Brown Hwy and that is Charlie Brown Outcrop middle distance right, and above that Tecopa?

{edit] or maybe the outcrop is above the hwy and the photo is taken from there or above the hwy.

Bryan, this had me searching for an hour. It is not the spot, though the author doesn't say where the photo was taken. It looks a lot like the road but doesn't line up but it's sure close. The photo in the article of Kelso Dunes is just down the road, so to speak. Here is another hint.

This photo was taken from a spot about two miles cross-country off a dirt road, and it was a spot that I wanted to find. I did a lot of backpacking back in the 70s and was a fan of an author named Colin Fletcher, who was the guru of backpacking in the late 60s and through the 70s and 80s. His first book was The Thousand Mile Summer, about the author's summer-long walk in 1958 the length of California. I still pick it up every two or three years, and have explored several areas that he writes about. He is not very specific about where he was so finding this spot was a challenge. Here is his original photo from the book.

That's funny, I wasn't suggesting the photo in that article was it, especially as you say, there was no location given. I just gave the link because I found the article interesting re dangers of breaking down on Mojave desert back roads and not being prepared.

I'm a motorcyclist and tend to be a cautious person. I try and stick to fairly well-traveled dirt roads, and by that, I mean someone will come by at least once a day. So far, things have worked out OK. Your sharing of that article got me thinking about finding that spot. I am challenged by this thread. It's kind of like being a detective. find clues, except now there are no dead bodies, hopefully.

Is it possibly taken from Brown Peak, or just a little south of there, same range.

[edit] If I happen to be correct, I don't have the pic I want yet so I will give someone else a go.

[edit2] I change my guess and say it is from one of the hills in the Ibex Wilderness area. But I can't for the life of me work out which road in the pic nor find that rock outcrop behind the ridge middle right.
