"New posts" (or "Last posts") would be better than "Threads", yes. I implicitly assumed that new users should be led directly into threads view, or if we got separate landing page, then Forum link from there should link to threads view. Have you visited Misago main page? Just threads list and few header buttons (and footer links), simple and understandable. Again, that is best approach for me - likely not for wider audience.

My only issue with this name is that this page lets you filter by things like "new posts", but also "my threads" or "subscribed threads", so name has to be universal or discussion will turn into "I've didn't expect to find subscribed threads on last posts page!". Still, I am open to suggestions.

OK, I've looked at the Misago page. I don't think it is relevant to our needs. DPREvived/The Photo has a core of users who know their way around what the site has to offer. What we have at the moment works for us. We aren't the problem.
We are trying to carve out a different photographic niche in a crowded market. We want quality discussion of photos rather than gear. We need newly arriving lookers to quickly see images and discussion that will engage them. Looking at our Home Page newbies see masses of buttons. Trying most of them leads to old, inactive posts. As I understand it, arrivals at a new site make one or two clicks. If they aren't engaged, they don't return.
The Missago site is entirely different. It's there to provide a support base for misago users.

Ted, that's far too scientific. All I was wondering was if people used it - if no one else did, I would have asked to get rid of it. But most of us like it - as they should, because it avoids wandering around forums seeing if there's anything new.

    So, it stays!!!!

So, it stays - complete with a row of exclamation marks - even though "most of us like it".

You're the boss - no further comment ...

Good choice. I consider the lack of an easy link to all new activity across the fora as a major weakness of those sites. On DPReview, I have missed a lot of threads that would have interested me because they were hidden in fora that I don't usually look at.

    Hola!
I usually access (via iPad) through "All Forums", which returns a result similar to "Threads".
In another of the forums in which I participate, there is always an "unread content" option in the header, which can also be customized...

Agreed, I do exactly the same thing.
