We should be aware that online forums include many people who are neuro-diverse (I know some people would hate the term, but it's important not to just lump a whole group of people who think differently as having 'issues'). It's invidious to attempt amateur diagnosis of ones peers.

I was not making a diagnosis, I was just asking a question and posing a very generic alternative regarding an accusation of trolling. One of the two alternatives I posed deserves more sympathy.

I just want this place to be a pleasant place to talk about photography, like everybody else I presume.

There has been some complaints from quite a few people about certain behaviours, that need addressing. It is better to talk about it than just give up on this forum, as I know for fact is in the mind of at least a couple of members.

When even one of the weekly picture threads starts to have senseless attacks against a person, something is going wrong.

As I said I do not want to see anybody banned, I have those I studiously ignore, even if the try to provoke. I just want to see this forum as a civilised place to chat.

Indeed. That's what we all want. The question is, how to achieve that.

It's the 'needs addressing' part that is difficult. There is no simple solution that doesn't go places that we don't want to go. Sure, we shouldn't be afraid to talk about the problem. The trouble is that when we do some people see it as 'irrelevant' and others see is as an opportunity to campaign. In trhe end, people will make their own decisions, and we shouldn't attempt to take responsibility for them. But, if people want the place to be more civil, they can play their part by setting an example of civility.

I haven't see that. Can you message me a link.

So do I. I just don't see a simple solution that goes there, short of people taking responsibility for their own actions. A little bit of refelection on the part of some individuals would be good here.

I wasn't saying that you were. I was simply saying that if we were to attempt to separate 'bad' behaviour from something which might have roots in some pathology we would need access to some professionals.

I'll consider that as high praise.

Looking around the forums during the last 13 days since this post it looks like it needs updating to something like

Just to note - if threads or posts from people I don't like which have nothing to do with photography are started or responded to, I will move them out to the Dumpster.

If you think this is wrong, tough.

Imo some of the selective moderating that has been going on here reminds me of the type of moderation at dpreview some people have been trying to get away from.
