You got that wrong. Singling members out would be being offensive to individual people. What you're doing is being offensive to a whole group of people. IMO it's a weak and cowardly way of being offensive, because it involves the deniability of being offensive by implication - you know very well who you intend people to think of when you talk about people having pissing contests. It's the tactic used by the most offensive people there are. Don't offend directly, just let your fellow thinkers know who you're talking about. In politics it's called 'dog-whistling'.
I didn't do that, I said that some threads were that.
Doesn't play. A thread can't have a pissing contest, it takes people to do that. What you're doing is impugning peoples' motives for posting, and that's offensive.
The only offensive thread I can find is this one.
You know, this one that says people like me (by name) should be ignored. Now THAT is offensive!
Yes it is, which is why I came in to defend you and the others who are not out and out trolls.
Especially when the only reason for a thread like this to be created is to try and hound out members like me, because we don't conform to their world view.
And isn't your only reason for wading into threads which you profess not to like and disrupting them because they don't conform to your world view? Our general approach to offensiveness here is, within limits in our ToS, to encourage those being unwittingly offensive to reflect on it and try to stop. Consider yourself encouraged. Also the OP of this thread.
