I see that the members' "Ranked Posts" counts have been stuck for at least 2 weeks now.

When DPRevived first started the Ranked Posts count was updated at least once per day. The members "ranking" is based on the Ranked Posts and not the Total Posts.

It can't be a good look for DPRevived to have me sitting on top of the pile 😏😏😎

And how are posts "ranked" anyway? 🤔🤔

I don't understand why people like Bobn2, AlanSh, JimKasson, Iliah Borg have a large difference between their Total Posts and Ranked Posts tallies.

Thread title has been changed from Members' Ranked Post Count Is Stuck.

Have to look at the sticking.
'Ranked posts' are over the last 30 days. Alan and I were up the top because we were making a load of posts when the site started, but fewer since. Other members were particularly active early for whatever reason.

Just to be clear, the "Ranked posts" colum is just the total posts from the last 30 days.

Oh ok, but for the last week and I'm pretty sure for even the last 2 weeks the ranked posts tallies have been static for all members, definitely mine.

However the total posts have continued to update once a day or so during the last 2 weeks.

It will be something to do with the new server. Not our highest priority to fix, but we will look into it.

Gee that was quick. Looks like it's fixed now. Thanks 🙂

Must have been an easy fix. I know Martin is doing all sorts of stuff in the background.

I’d be more concerned about this feature if it offered a SNR measurement.

Yes, the problem is, as we move further from the vanilla version, the more things we find that weren't tested under the conditions that we're using them.

Well hopefully Danno can push his way back to #1

On DPReview, when I saw my name getting up in the ranking in the sidebar of a forum, I always figured I was having too much to say. Used it as a guide, sort if.

On a side note, it would be nice if the area to reply in was more defined. Unless I'm being extra careful, I've been putting my replies too high up and not after the final "quote" Then it's edit, edit

Yes, I get that too. Maybe we should remove the 'quote' button and make people select what they want to quote directly.

If you're on DPReview, just go into any thread, pick a post and hit "Reply with quote" That is so well defined on where to put your text.

I know you, Bob and crew are doing a tremendous amount of work, so I don't send messages on can you do this, can you do that. I know a lot of things will be adjusted over time. I only mentioned it now, because in the thread I mentioned it, I ended up missing the final "quote" twice. It can be a backburner thing if needed.

I will ask the developers - but it's built into the editor and I know that's a module buried somewhere in the code.

The problem is with the 'reply' button. Misago doesn't identify the post replied to, so the new post just goes at the end of the thread. Putting that link in is necessary for threaded view, and when we do that, the 'reply' will reply to a post, have a link to take you back to that post and provide the information for threaded order. My present intention is that it won't be a threaded view like DPReview's. Instead there will be two features - one will be 'compacted view'. If you choose this the posts in a thread will be shown just as a single line showing the current post header plus the first bit of the original (non quote) text in the post, plus a button that will allow you to expand that post. Normal view will be as present.
Then you can choose thread ordering - either time, (latest post last) or threaded. In threaded order compacted view will show a level bar on each post as a graphical indication of where you are in the thread structure. Put compacted and threaded order together and you can hop along the thread choosing the conversations that you want to. Choose normal view and threaded order you can just browse down conversations.

Its effect is spread around several modules. The real problem is that Misago has no notion of which post was replied to, only threads and quotes.

The Quote button within a post must already have that post's ID attached to it. Clicking the Quote button opens up the post editor and passes the post's ID to the editor which then retrieves the post from the database and pastes it into the editor by default.

It should not be difficult to also attach the post ID to the Reply button within a post.

After that it should be a lot easier to do other things like threaded view of some kind, display the author and link to the post being replied to etc.

The post ID is probably the unique sequential number at the end of a post's permalink.

Just my $0.02 worth of food for thought :-)

Misago v4 prototype supports quotes with quoted post’s id in them, letting UI to have a link on quote back to quoted post. But to bacport that to 0.x I’ll need to port back v4’s message parser, which was amazing because it emits messages as JSON documents which are a breeze to comb for extra data, mold from plugins and convert into either HTML or search documents for search index. This is quite high on list of my priorities (which means I’ll start working on it in next month or two) but I cant give exact timeline because this is OS project ;)

I also want to have simple two-level form of threaded discussion in future Misago, where posts that were made as replies to other posts know both the post they were made in reply to, but also the wider context, so posts could display both the „reply to XYZ” UI but also the „Replies to this post” option. But building a feature like that will take a while so it may only arrive after DPR implements their own version of threaded discussion.
