Have you written to Admin via the Feedback form at the bottom of the page. It takes a couple of days, but you can usually get reinstated if they feel the moderation has been too harsh. It worked for me a few times when I was victimised by a Fanboy moderator.
It was explained to me that they do not like comments that challenge the beliefs of those emotionally attached to their brand of gear.

Thanks for the pointer, though I am not sure I am going to beg to be reinstalled. I think I now rather will avoid all forums that MAKO2011 is moderating. It's cool that I still have a voice here, after being made "mouth-dead". I see I can not send private messages, but the feedback option escaped me.

Gerlof, is that you? Thanks for the warm welcome :-)

Wow, that is scary. Where there is power, there is abuse of power, it can take a while but eventually there are no exceptions. I tried to contact Simon Joinson, but can't send private messages.

(I left that other forum completely)😉

It's always the question, if a moderator starts interfering, if this is a reaction to other people complaining. Perhaps more often than not this is the case. Doesn't change much, anyway.

Actually it's interesting that you both mention the many references to Sony and this makes it even stranger. One post "do you ever peak in the Leica forum" and asking a question about the deletion of that post. That was enough for MAKO2011 the trigger-happy moderator.

Was there any reason to post a thread about Leica in Cannon forum?

    The Solution is Simple

This forum is a much more friendly and saner place. There are no crazed school prefect bullies here, using their little bit of power to make life a misery for the others.

DPR was the only place where I have had problems with moderation. They are there to sell camera gear, via adverts and such, so they want a cosy anesthetised enviroment for the consumer.

Quit the DPR drug and post on a forum like this. It is just that simple.

Bas, can you expand on this? You should be able to send private messages here.

To strike a sort of balance, Cambridge In Colour was not so friendly towards technical posters when I was a member. One Moderator in particular was not happy being corrected technically. And the previous main Moderator was bombastic to a fault - anything not done his way was automatically no good.

As to DPR, the Sigma forum there remains calm with absolutely excellent moderation and is still well-attended - unlike the Sigma category here which is almost dead (through no fault of the Team).,

While I agree that a standard action would be to move a post, we do not know what was in this post. As usual, on this site we hear just one part of the story. BTW, maco2011 does not shoot neither with Canon nor with Leica. So he/she is hardly a fan of either. I am on the DPR Nikon Z forum, where maco11 is one of moderators. There are quite a few posts, not favorable to Nikon Z cameras, compared to Canon and Sony and they have not been deleted.

It is more about setting the record straight and making folks aware, rather than bitch'n. The membership keeps climbing...

All this is doing is giving Mako jollies. Stop feeding the worthless troll.

Depends how you look at it. If you mean did I had any harmful intentions to the forum and/or members, the answer is no. I just had taken a few looks in the Leica forum and saw some great stuff especially from the Leica Q series, which has a fixed 28/17 prime. Still some shots had tremendous subject isolation, which I wouldn't have thought was possible with a WA lens and that is exactly what I wanted to discuss. And also I saw a quality that was different from Canikon FF images, and this intrigues me. Off topic? Quite possible but the discussion would be interesting, and WHY then such panic in a forum that is half-dead anyway? Chances such an off-topic discussion would derail the the superquiet forum are zero. Still I realize that that some people in the forum could have complained about the post and MAKO2011 reacted on that.

PS: there was a time where DPR apparently suffered from bots, and the policy back then was to sandbox all new users. But MAKO2011 kept users sandboxed for weeks and weeks even after they had posted dozens of posts. I mean after a couple of approvals it should be clear there is no bot, right? But, no, he kept approving post after post for weeks. What kind of personality does such thing? Until forum members started to wonder "and all these approvals are still necessary because of bots?" ;-)

One factor that many people don't think about sufficiently in this area is the size of the focal plane. If you shoot something small, even a small sensor with a slow wide angle lens can produce a lot of subject isolation. I once took a picture to demonstrate.

    Pocket compact, 1/2.5" sensor, f/2.8, 24mm-equivalent.
