Olympus MFT Talk Missing

Not sure precisely where to ask this so I’ll start here. There’s a Panasonic MFT Talk forum but no Olympus/OM System one. Was that just an oversight?

was added by an admin who says he doesn't know anything about MFT.

It's about as useful as an appendix. Still no posts in it. Don't need two of them subcategories, both brands adhere to the same M43 standard.

Moreover, Olympus as a camera brand name is dead, it's now OM System again (AFAIK introduced in 1972).

OTOH it may keep pure brand fans in their separate circles.

I'll stick with brand agnostic M43.

Hi Alan, not to be confrontational, but for me, one of the best things about old DPR M43 forum was that we all had to 'get along', and having Pany people threads in the same forum was/is a great thing.
I see this division in OTHER forums already with history. It hinders knowing whats out there and what's capable...
I have that options in other forums, don;t really need same, same again, here.
... that's me... and I gotta be 'me'.

to be clear - having 2 distinct OM (M43) forums now is divisive and since it's all new here, reason enough to avoid it all together.

I think anything related to Panasonic MFT or Olympus MFT should all be in one MFT forum. The camera mount should define the forum since the lenses and bodies are somewhat interchangeable. IMO, three forums when one can work isn’t optimal and can lead to many posts not being read.

Also what’s the deal with The Weekly M 4/3 Talk forum. Another division that’s unnecesssary.

Well, I disagree. Keeping the forums separate will likely encourage more Panasonic owners to participate. Most had left the DPR forum due to everything being about Olympus.

And it's just a single click to go into another forum. Just bookmark all three and you'll be able to jump in and out as you please!

Same reason - this will stop the thread from disappearing down the list and make it much more accessible. A great idea in my view.

The DPRevived site does not currently support threaded discussion. This makes posting images and replying to said images a difficult task if they are all in one thread. The purpose of the Weekly m4/3 Forum was to replace a weekly thread I ran in the Olympus SLR forum. Its sole purpose is to allow the posting of image threads where the poster can easily see the replies to their image. I really don't see how that is of any concern to any one that does not post images there. It has no other stated purpose. New image posts go to the top because it is a forum and threads that have new replies likewise. It will work for those of us that post there.

No one is obliged to post there. It is a matter of choice. Its intent is to be an image thread only and not to replace or infringe on anyone's right or desire to post elsewhere!

Hello, I just registered, I hardly ever posted on DPReview but regularly read the discussions. I personally use a Lumix Micro Four Thirds camera and a Lumix compact but that is as much a coincidence as anything else (I took some great pictures with an Olympus XA Twin in the 1980s and always thought that the Olympus OM3TI was the pinnacle of camera design). I use Lumix and Olympus lenses and have some older manual focus lenses adapted too. I also use Nikon cameras.

First of all, thanks for making the effort to develop a successor to DPReview. That is really appreciated.

I have been thinking about the number of subsections in the Micro Four Thirds Forum. Just like some others here, I feel that there can be too many subsections. There is a trade-off between choice and simplicity. More is not necessarily always better. The more granular the breakdown, the fewer discussions you will end up having in any particular subsection. I also do not fully understand the difference between Micro Four Thirds Talk and Olympus Talk and Lumix Talk? What particular discussion do you expect to have in the general Micro Four Thirds Talk? Third party flashguns? Camera bags for Micro Four Thirds systems? A discussion of crop factor?
