Until we have big storage I would suggest to keep the uploaded max image size on 4k or below
if not needed to show DOF / BQ / Dynamic range / etc.
this will also keep the download speed high if you open an image in fullscreen.

Actually, I have not figured out how images are stored or displayed here. Are they hotlinked from, say flickr, etc.? Are they stored forever on this server? Etc....
I finally manage to upload a picture from flickr.
In your Flickr image, just need to click the "share" arrow, then it will open a new window with 4 options: "Share - Embed - Email - BBcode" click BBcode (the last one on the right), copy the link will appear and paste it here. Done!

You can store images here up to 4MB per file this will change in future.
You will also have gallery in future to manage your uploaded files.
For now you may link them form other post.
