First, thanks for starting this site!

If possible, please simplify the image upload process.

Rather than having to preview the post before one sends it, it would be preferable to simply write the post and insert the image and hit send.

I'm not sure how hard that would be from a programming stand point but from a UI stand point, it just makes sense. Simpler is almost always better.

    Thanks again.

    Joe

I write posts, add the pics and hit send…you don’t need to preview.

  • April 8, 2023, 5:17 p.m.

Joe, what do you mean my 'preview the post'? Do you mean you have to hit the preview button before you can hit 'Reply'? Because I don't think anyone else does. If you mean something else, can you elaborate?

When I add an image, I have to take the following steps:
    1. Click the Insert Image icon, select the image and upload the image
    2. A box with text showing the name of the image pops up, then I have to click the square icon in that box.
    3. A text string pops up in the post where the cursor is.
    4. To see if the image is the right one, I have to click Preview to see the actual image in the text.

It would be a lot easier to simply have the actual image automatically inserted into the text where the cursor is after step 1.

I always click the Preview button before submitting the post whether I have an image included or not.

It's certainly not a big deal for me as it's only one extra click to ensure my quotes and text formatting is correct before submitting the post.

The much more important issue for me is that it would be nice to have CSS styling enabled in a posts' BBcode for the IMG tag to allow images to be sized and positioned more appropriately by users in their posts.

I think this mean in-line image insertion, just like dpreview does when you insert and image.

It sounds like what you’re asking for is a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor, it’s possible, but I’m not sure it’s part of the forum software currently, but the current editor works fine, you just need to be aware of the markup code it inserts for formatting, images etc.

This website uses both BBcode and Markdown to format text.

The IMG tag is enabled in the BBcode and it works fine except that CSS styling is not enabled for the IMG tag.

But by default when you insert an image into a post, Markdown code is created in the post for the image. You have the option to manually replace it with BBcode's IMG tag to display the image.

At the moment neither the Markdown code or BBcode for images has styling for images enabled.

Yes. I don't know the correct programming term, but this sounds correct.

I can't think of many cases other than extremely low bandwidth where the end user would want to see markdown code instead of the image. Modern UIs insert the image. It would be nice to have that here. WYSIWYG seems to be pretty commonly adopted.

I don't want to sound ungrateful for all the effort that's going into this project. I'm just hoping that it's not too much trouble to do this.

Not sure what you mean here.

The only time you see the code that displays the image is when you are in edit mode in the post editor. In both Preview mode or after submitting the post you see the image, not the code.

Being able to see the code enables users to resize and position images within the post if the styling features in the code are enabled. At the moment they are not enabled.

It enables technically skilled users to resize and position images.

    To a lot of users, it’s just so much gobbledygook. There’s a reason almost nobody uses TeX and almost all word processors are WYSIWYG. ^^;;

Yeah...I'm thinking of my son & daughter who are on their computers all day long for work (Real Estate & medical sectors). They're in their late 30s and have never seen anything like this. They're just regular people with decent computer skills just like everyone else in the world. I'm retired from a university so TeX was used exclusively by only some of the profs and grad students. None of the staff had any skills with non-WYSIWYG editors. All the undergrads get free access to MS Office365. Heck, I haven't used a non-WYSIWYG editor on a daily basis since the IBM PC days.

I'll throw US$100 in the pot for a WYSIWYG editor add-on - if there is such a thing for this misago software. Take my money. 😁

After you choose the image or images to be uploaded, and they’ve had time to transfer to the DPRevived server, you have one more button to push to embed the image into your post. You can go back and do this to your existing message by editing that post. The image will be embedded at the point where the cursor is located when you push the button.

My screenshot is from an iPad so what you see won’t be identical — but it should be similar.

What is an address for an image my images are in albums on my computer. I have some on youpic and 500px but I tried using one of those URL's for an image and ended up with a blue question mark. Is there a size limit? If so what is it?

I Am also spend some time to find solution. To insert image you need NOT to choose icon-button [insert image], but choose next Icon - [upload file]!.
And after that manually press icon for inserting code, that will show image.

To avoid miss-understanding for new forum members, how to attach image from local computer to message by one click It' be better to modify "insert image" form like this:
    image.png
And after pressing [Insert Image] botton automatically insert code for inserting image.
But wysywyg will be better. Writing code and pressing [preview] bottonisn't convinient at all.

Improving the UI of the editor in several ways is on our to do list.

Great!!! I'm really hoping that this site succeeds. Right now the only thing this site has is messaging. So, I think that a clean WYSIWYG message editor will draw more people and increase the chance of people staying with the site. My two cents.

My pix posts only show up as little preview images that have to be clicked to be seen full size. I want to post images that don't have to be clicked on to view. Others are doing it but there seems to be no info on the site on how it's done. It was simple on DPreview and it's simple on DPrforum. Why is it so difficult here?

    Look here

Editor will be replaced in future with simpler handling but will need some time.

I looked at the image you posted here dprevived.com/t/yet-another-attempt-to-upload-an-image/2252/#post-20148

Within the forum structure, we can't make it any bigger without disturbing posts before and after. The image is very viewable and one click shows a larger picture. You posted a portrait sized one - a landscape one would fill more of the post.

What else are you looking for? Can you give us some more detail (maybe with examples from other forums where it works "better")?
