    In the early 90's I once photographed white water kayaking with a 6x6 TLR. The Mamiya C330 with 80 and 250mm lenses. I shot one roll of film for the heck of it after primarily using my 35mm system. Both were manual focus. I got a couple of good photos but I never tried using medium format for sports again. The advantage of river kayaking is how close one can get to the subject. So, while sports with a medium format camera is an interesting challenge, and can be done, it is far easier with a FF or even smaller format.

    What I remember most is how I must have really stuck out dangling on the rocks with my waist level TLR, prompting an older gentleman to suggest I join my local city camera club! I do regret never having done that.

    Hi,

    I have not tried my P645D for cars on course (auto racing). It would be nice to have a MF that could get away with that.

    Photographers and Artists using MF cameras and LF printers run the gamut.

    1. Editorial style large prints in clothing stores, hair and nail salons, eateries, coffee shops, book stores...
    2. Prints on substrate (glass, acrylic panels, large tile sections, etc..) .. think OCE' Arizona printers.
    3. Artists using large format printers after photographing their artwork and selling the respective prints.
    4. Large family prints (actually not uncommon in certain demographics; spanning back at least to the late 1960's)

    Example (the first photograph of the framed photos on wall behind table) Often one of my prints would take up most of that space.

    The superCCD layout had a mix of large photosites and small photosites. These were combined to increase dynamic range. Even today (my S5 still going strong), the superCCD competes reasonably well for dynamic range with modern cmos sensors. There is an added complexity with superCCD. The array is rotated 45 degrees. This creates a bit more resolution horizontally and vertically at the cost of diagonal resolution. The result of all this shenanigans is a 12MP sensor with improved highlight dynamic range but 6MP overall resolution that looks like 8MP resolution horizontally and vertically and less in the diagonal directions! No wonder it was hard to market....

    I wish I still had my 300mm f2.8 and I would have done it. Man if I can shoot baseball with XT-1, I can shoot with GFX100s. Give me 400mm something lens and I can show car/planes can be done too. Might not get all the shots in focus like A1 but that's beyond the point. There are a couple of photog shooting sports with GFX50s/GFX100s. Google.

    Can the GF glass resolve a 150mp sensor? I mean can it take full advantage of a higher resolution sensor?

    Yep. We shall have to repeat many discussions over here. And that's Fair Enough.

    The GFX lenses will have no issue with 150 MP. Probably won't have an issue with any of them at 400 MP for that matter.

    But they aren't going to work with the existing Sony 150 MP sensor as it's too large an area. So this 150 we are discussing will have to be a new part. Which would be Grand!

    I can give you an example I recently addressed; A1 size printed images for a jewellery business. These were 'lifestyle' shots of a model wearing the jewellery in question, for marketing purposes in a retail environment. You need (want) a lot of resolution to get sufficient detail in the individual components of a necklace in a head and shoulders portrait printed at nearly 24 X 36 inches....

    I've would love to have 200M stack sensor and ultra fast ... everything. Mainly because I'm not very good to focus on any moving subject (not very big problem because I don't shoot a lot of moving subject) I know some talented people are able to do that with some manual focus.

    But I would say let's keep it «realistic» if Fuji do that they would need to sale it at a crazy expensive price, and even then I can't see how they can contest with some lighter/smaller lenses.

    I would think that Sony would have a new generation sensor, preferably in multiple sizes. Sony sensors may be on a 4 year development cycle. Fujifilm XT5 is 40 MP, that is 3.0 micron pitch, on 24x36 that would be 93 MP and on 33*44 around 157 MP.

    We may see that sensor in the Sony A7r6, too, assuming it will ever arrive.

    In that case, DoF and diffraction may be an issue. Say shooting at 1.5 m with 110 at f/8, DoF will be very short for say 0.003 mm CoC and diffraction would be around 4.4 microns FWHM.

    Opening up increases resolution but decreases DoF while closing down aperture reduces resolution for gain in DoF.

    You want enough diffraction to reduce aliasing to negligible levels.
