On a related note, I have rescued two while another had been stuck for too long. Never saw a spider once. The first I managed to get all the web off before it flew away. The other got away with a bit of web holding one wing tip bent. It could still fly but not so well. The webs around here are extra sticky. No fun to walk into especially if one has some whiskers...
Another time I saved one that was stuck in some muddy water. Took it a while to shake it all off before it could fly again...
