Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. With the shuttering of DPReview, the last Sunday Cat! was hosted there on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

    Unvanquished Kitty of the Week!

    Istanbul Street Cat

Despite bearing the mark of battle, @Kumsal's image captures the kitty's unflagging spirit. :)

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your picture and stories of your feline companions with us."

“Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don’t accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras welcome. Images from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge where nice comments abound and only constructive criticism is given when it's requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for business. :D

    Last week's purrs, #823 / DPRv #16

    Thread Manager's Corner:
Well as it turned out, this site was not revamped as quickly as I thought it was going to be. So we're still here in the Olympus SLR Talk forum. Just to repeat my question from last week, there are plans to restructure DPRv, making the forum structure less like DPR, into something more suitable for the people who come here. There is a poll to vote for one the possible structures. The poll has been up for a week now but as I write this it has only had 65 votes total. That does suggest to me flagging interest in this site. That said, I can't really say that it has affected the Sunday Cat! Looking back at prior years, summer (July / August) tends to be slow. As most who responded last week want the Sunday Cat! to stay here at DPRv, we will continue at DPRv for now and in Olympus SLR Talk as well. When these threads move, which is inevitable once a new structure is set, they will all be together.

The other part of this question was whether the Sunday Cat! should stay in a gear forum (i.e. Olympus) or move to a genre forum. Since some of the redesign options are brand agnostic, it makes it more likely that a genre forum should be the destination. In the test site layout, there does not appear to be any genre where a Sunday Cat! would fit in. The current Pet Photography forum is not included in the new design. But I also think "pet" is too limiting. If staying here I think the Sunday Cat! needs a forum better suited to it. Since "Cats" might be too limiting for some people, I think requesting a "Domestic Animals" photography genre forum might be the way to go. I hate to lose the Olympus SLR Talk association, since it carries over from DPR, but the future here does not keep that as an option. Are there other suggestions for a forum destination here at DPRv?

Well, that was quite a detour. Now, let's get down to what were are here for. The kitties!

My impression is that the brand "Olympus" is no more in the camera market, as it is now OMDS, so I think we need to move on even if this means losing the association of Olympus SLR Talks forum. I agree on "Domestic Animals" category since I have always believed that cats are not exactly "wild"life. As far as I read it, I thought Alan's message is that it is possible to add more "genre" categories once the new structure of the forum is confirmed.

I have my little emperor (Peanut) self-cleaning here this week. I believe I have finally achieved the correct colour reproduction of him.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it's true, the Olympus name is history. And perhaps the association should be as well. I'll wait until they get to the next stage of asking about where things should go to raise the issue of an additional genre forum.

I agree about Peanut's color. It really looks "true" to me. It's hard to say exactly what that means. Maybe that I have seen strongly colored cats like Peanut and his image seems to agree with my sense of the color.

Sunday Cat should keep the tradition.

She is a beautiful kitty. So much detail to the image. I suppose she just had some water. I can see the tiny droplets of water on the fur around her mouth.

I lean towards asking for a genre forum for the Sunday Cat! but I also hate to break with tradition, even though the forum would not be the exact same name as the old one. It's hard to choose. :(

Generally, the street cats where I live don't take too kindly to being photographed.

To be a cat is perhaps to want to be unseen.

The essence of being a stealth predator: be invisible.
