    Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. With the announced shuttering of DPReview (which did not happen), the last Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

    August Kitty of the Week!

    Princess Miki

    Princess Miki in all her splendor! Hard to believe that such a beautiful kitty had to be rescued from an abusive situation.

    As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your picture and stories of your feline companions with us."

    “Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don’t accidentally double post.

    Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras welcome. Images from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge where nice comments abound and only constructive criticism is given when it's requested.

    The Sunday Cat! is now open for business. :D

    Last week's purrs, #844 / DPRv #37

    Thread Manager's Corner:
    It's Christmas eve (at least in some parts of the world right now) and the kitties are ready to find out what they are getting. Perhaps some new toys, or special food. But what do their people get? Maybe it's the special joy of hearing them purr when petted, or sometimes even by just looking at us! Or perhaps our admiration of their athleticism. Maybe it's their silly antics when they are attacking the ghosts under the covers that we can't see. Or possibly their willingness to listen without criticism to whatever it is we have to say. However, wherever they are, our kitties are a special gift. :)

    ~~~ Kim
    Though small in size, the imprint they make on our lives is huge.
    A Christmas gift
    Last Sunday I realized that Palmer was having difficulty breathing. Since he seemed to be stable, not getting better or worse, I decided to wait until Monday when he could see his regular vet. She had treated him in May for a similar problem.
    Palmer resting
    Palmer, in a fuzzy state as he tries to rest Sunday night.
    The next morning they took him in and found that he had the same problem that he did earlier in the year, fluid in his chest. The doctor drained it and sent him home to recover. Unfortunately his breathing while slightly better, was still not good. We went back the next day and more fluid was drained off, but he still wasn't getting better. At this point it was getting late and the vet would close soon so I called. The doctor recommended giving him some pain medication to see if that would help. As it turns out, I still had a liquid opioid on hand that he had been given in an earlier trip this year to the ER (the other time he nearly died this year). The drug had made him pretty uneasy when he had it back in May, so the doctor recommended a smaller dose for this time. After some additional discussion I gave him the drug. In about half an hour he was starting to breath more easily and seemed to improve as the evening wore on. The next morning, he was breathing normally! The next task was getting him to eat again. He also has a medication for that so he was given a good dose of it and that helped kick start him to eating again.
    Palmer recovering
    Believe it or not this is a shot of him while he was getting better! He was so weary that his head would just fall down like kittens sometimes do when they fall asleep.
    On Friday we made another visit to the vet. The doctor was very pleased with his progress and decided to put off any additional tests for a couple of weeks, to give him more time to recover.
    Palmer resting outside
    So now he's working hard at getting better, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine (when available) in his back yard. His recovery from a near death experience this past week has definitely been a special gift. :D
