Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. When DPReview was threatened with closure in March 2023, the last regular Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

    Strategic Kitty of the Week!

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your pictures and stories of your feline companions with us."

“Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don’t accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras welcome. Images from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge where nice comments abound and only constructive criticism is given when it's requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for business. :D

    Thread Manager's Corner:
It was quite a busy week, with some news besides. We all hope that Micio heals up quickly and gets to take that clumsy collar off soon! :) The Muzzleloaders are growing up fast! And of course there were mechanical beasts that visited as well. :D A little bit late today because posting time right now is at the time for some of the best light of the day, so I hate to miss it! Next week I will post either very early or very late as I will be out that evening. I'm sure no one will be too upset by that. ;) Now on to this week!

    Hi,

The kittens were so cute this morning. Sorry for the El.Crapo cell phone camera shot. They weren't going to sit there while I rummaged in the other room for a real camera. Any noise I might make brings the curious on the run. In fact, they were starting to move waiting the the trigger delay as it was.

The two girls piled on the boy, and he was asleep but they weren't. Not yet, and they both jumped down right after leaving him in the state of snooze

That's quite a construction of cats on the cushion! Like you I often find myself without a real camera at hand when the interesting shots happen. :( I have to admire the other folks here who have cameras at ready and create such wonderful images. But, there is also something to be said for the in the moment, grab whatever is at hand, image that captures that moment in time that will be lost in the next second. :)

Storing up energy for the romp later. :)

This one sure gives an indication of how narrow the depth of field is with a 56mm lens at f/1.4. And also how good this lens is. I don't know if chromatic aberration had to be removed or not, but with a lot of the fast old school primes I have, you just don't shoot them wide open like that, or if you do, you have a lot of work on your hands to clean it up! ;) Nice.

Let the adventure begin! I see mom brought some variation in coat pattern to the farm. :) Let's hope those stripes give them a little extra camouflage and improve their chance of survival. I can't tell, how many kittens are there?

    Hi,

Ah! Someone else with three kittens. :)

You have the mama. We didn't get our kitten's mama. She had already wandered off leaving our guys a bit too early.

We do have Snowflake. She's not thrilled to be a surrogate mother cat, though....
