Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. When DPReview was threatened with closure in March 2023, the last regular Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! found refuge here on 9 April 2023.

    Snoozing Kitty of the Week!

    Bandito

Shhh! Be careful. You don't want to awaken the sleeping bandito! (This, of course, is what electronic shutter is for. :)

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your pictures and stories of your feline companions with us."

“Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don’t accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! Remember, all cats, all cameras welcome. Digital cats or silver halide cats, cats of metal, or cats of the wilderness. Big cats, small cats, kittens and their toys. Cats of pen and ink, cats of brush and canvas, from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge to enjoy and marvel at the magic of cats, where positive comments abound and constructive criticism is given if requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for mischief. :D

    Thread Manager's Corner:
I'm still in the middle of a very messy computer transition and am coming to terms with the computer I'm using now, that is two years older than the 12 year old one I was using before I killed it... Found out tonight either the LAN cable or the LAN port is bad on this computer. But now I am up and running finally, using wireless, not the 56k modem... Boxes certainly generated a number of comments in the thread last week. What other habits do our kitties display that make us wonder, what the heck are they thinking?

Though small in size, the imprint they make on our lives is huge.

    Hi,

Yeah. Computers. How well I know. I'm at fault there, too. I don't have my long-time sig line from DPReview here where I say: Amateur Photographer, Professional Electronics Development Engineer. When I was hired by IBM in 1981 it was to work on the then-new idea of a Personal Computer. We thought we had a design that the world was ready to use to computerize. Well, we were successful.. And so created all sorts of headaches for all sorts of people while at the same time making some things easier.

I just went thru a series of re-doing several computers here myself. My wife is an artist and so uses Adobe Illustrator in her business. It was time to upgrade her to a new one. So, load all sorts of files onto it. Then, take her old one and move it to a different job. And then that one moves to replace yet another one. And so on until the last one in the chain winds up heading to recycle. A bunch of work.

After that I finally went for a Fujifilm GFX-100 Mark-I to replace my venerable Pentax 645D. It's a good thing I got my main photo processing computer upgraded along the way. The new one isn't all too fast with 100 MP files, but the old one is a slug. So, all that work was worth it.

    Hi,

Speaking of a new camera, here we go. Obligatory new camera testing cat shots! :)

It's way overkill to use this camera for online shots. To get the file sizes down, they are quartered (reduced by 50% in both directions) and Jpeg compressed. But, this is what I'm messing with at the moment. What I ought to do is keep my Nikon Df out where it is easy to get to.....

    Hi,

We have a cat which wanders over from a neighboring farm - quite a long walk for short legs - but I haven't snapped a shot of her yet. She likes hanging out here better than she does at her own place for whatever reason.

    Hi,

All the boy cats I have had over the course of my life like to lay about upside down like that. The girls do sometimes, but the boys make a habit of it. :)

I call it Nose Up, Toes Up, Ears Down. :P
