On quick scan, the counterexample to the 'more than two people in a thread' theory is a post by bobn2, but perhaps the system does not consider you a normal user (you're labeled "team"), so the general principle doesn't apply?

Regarding the registration error, does this help: misago-project.org/t/unknown-error-on-register-form/1091/
I cannot find any threads with more than two different people responding. I found some with the same person responding multiple times, plus one other, but when I try to respond, as a third person, I get the error.
There is this one dprevived.com/t/cannot-reply-problem/74/#post-1261
I think the issue has been resolved, though more quirks can be expected while the forum is being beaten into shape :)
Same symptom, slightly different cause. It's related to the system trying to send an email, either for registration or if the person you replied to has email notifications selected in their profile. If that emails send fails the operation gives an error message and resets. The first time it was because there was a protocol disagreement between this system and the mail server. The second time it was because the email limit on the server had been exceeded. I've turned emails off for now. The longer term solution is our own email server.
