The Weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Starting 15 July 2024 Any Brand

This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels
from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

I got a few also a few Common hollyhocks in different colors.
No long hikes but a short stroll while visiting family near the Port of Rotterdam (Europoort)
There is a small peninsula with a little village called Rozenburg and at the peninsula you can find a small piece of nature called the Landtong.

Subject: Lavender Festival

Last Friday I went to a lavender festival. It was held at someone's farm, just west of Portland, Oregon. That day it was warm with lots of sunshine.

I hope you like these. I did take more pictures at the festival where they sold some food, but mostly the photos were views of the surrounding countryside. It was a little hazy although, with our summer heat.

There's times I like blue sky, but now that we are in the dry season, I miss seeing all of those clouds. So I enjoyed seeing them again in your pictures. The photos of those awesome beasts are great. They look scary with the horns but seem friendly too. The wild Hollyhock flowers are pretty with a variety of colors. What type of bird is that in the last picture?

I photographed this humpback whale feeding outside of Boston, Massachusetts. You can see the individual krill jumping about.

That photo is awesome. How were you able to get so close? Were you are on a boat? I've seen whales in Oregon at Depoe Bay and Cape Lookout, but I did not get good photographs of them jumping out of the water. Can you describe a little about the whale? What exactly are we seeing on the left side. Seeing the krill in the image is neat.

We went on a whale watching excursion in Boston. I used an EOS R5 and a 600mm f/11 lens. I really wish I had the 200-800 lens, because this photo may have been better if I were a bit wider... but I did get an awful lot of detail.

This is a humpback whale, and his (or her?) mouth is wide open. They don't have teeth, they have a hairy "net" called baleen, which you can see very well in this photo. Basically, they suck in a thousand gallons of sea water and the baleen filters the krill out, which they eat. This whale was breaching sideways, which is quite rare, and it gives us an excellent look inside the mouth. I ordered a 16x24 print and I sent the photo to the New England Aquarium, who operate the tours. I'm hoping they'll give me some free trips, so that I can give them more photos. We shall see.

I'm keeping an eye out for their reply....

Thanks for the details. Yes, I prefer also a zoom lens for wildlife photography. Most of the time, we seem to take them at the long end of the telephoto lens, but there's times we want to back off a little for a little wider view. I hope you get some free trips. 😀 The photo of the whale's eye is awesome too...wow...just amazing...excellent! 😀

@Digirame Well today we do have a very grey sky 😓 some rain and storm is coming again overhere in the Netherlands.....
Those Highlander cows are friendly and curious, they look dangerous with their horns, but if you stay calm they won't do a thing.
That bird in the last picture is a Egyptian goose (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egyptian_goose)

We did see them when we visited Iceland near Husavik and also in Canada (near Victoria BC - Vancouver Island) but not that close.

Subject: Policeman

I'll be traveling again this summer for about two weeks. David said he would host the thread while I'm gone.
