The Weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Starting 25 November 2024 Any Brand

This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

Subject: Early October Flower

Here's a photo of a flower I took in our area in early October. It was warm enough for these flowers. But now the weather is much colder and wetter. We had sunshine then too. 😀

I like the image but I have a hard time understanding it, like what was photographed. Was that because you removed some objects? What did it look like before you did that? Was that taken on a wet surface while it was raining? How did you remove the objects?

The way my brain works, is that if I can make some sense of it and it is beautiful, then that combination works best for me. That is how I view it. It will be interesting to hear other people's comments.

A bit abstract but I do like it @AlanSh I's it a puddle close to a sidewalk?

@Digirame Almost a perfect circle that flower nice shot with the dark background, all the focus goes to that flower.

We had almost every season in one week.
Last week started with snow and low temperatures, in the northern part we had actually about 10cm of snow.
Where I live a bit less but still I had to drive through snow to my work 😎
During the week the temperatures did rise again and we did see the sun a few moments but also a lot of rain
And the week ended with record high temperatures (18c in the southern part) but the sun still was covered with clouds.
And with that I went out for a hike (alone the lady didn't feel well with some flu)
Still busy with getting used to our new gear, and I do like the R6-II a lot
The AF tracking options and a few other things like the IBIS are very nice to use and do miss those with the R.
Did use the R and R6-II while hiking through a wet nature reserve

For my tastes, I like the second image better. That's a nice street photo. When it's raining, I like to take pictures of the streets too, to capture anything interesting and also to get the reflections.

You do have a lot of natural beauty where you live. That is great you captured the bird with an open wing. Would you ever consider the Canon R7 to give you that 1.6 crop factor for wildlife? I like the 1.6 crop factor that I get with the Tamron 150-600mm lens and my Canon T7i (800D) camera.

That's interesting that you are getting a variety of weather. That makes for great photo ops. 😀 I'm glad you are enjoying your new gear. I may get some more too, if I can find at least one good deal this autumn.

@Digirame We did use crop bodies in the past but I still shoot analog (fullframe) I wanted to keep every thing similar (like FOV) in a way so the crop bodies and EF-s lenses had to go.
We don't mind the weather, we're used to it, so we try to make the best of it .
I do enjoy the 6D-II a lot, actually I'm thinking and convincing the misses to trade in the R and a some other EF lenses with an other 6R-II 😄

I'm glad you like the Canon R6-II so much and that you might get another one. I understand the feeling...there's just enough improvement to entice us to continue purchasing new gear.

Subject: Forest Fire

As we traveled in California last month in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, we saw evidence of a forest fire. It's amazing how many good photos I was able to take from the car (as a passenger). I try to have sufficient shutter speeds, plus I like to have enough depth of field too.

Photo No. 1 - We see that not all of the trees were destroyed. We had some rain then. The rain clouds can be seen above.

Photo No. 9 - Looking here, I believe all the homes were destroyed probably because they had roofs that were not resistant to fire. It looks like a cleanup effort is being made.

Sounds perhaps a bit strange but a nice set Digirame. Well documented what a wildfire can do.
Have seen similar "results" when we were in Canada.
We visited Waterton (Alberta) in 2019 and we still could see what kind of damage the fire in 2017 created

Thanks. 😀 Your "forest fire" photos are great too. The first one of the charred log among the green plants is superb. I just love the second and third photo too with all of that wonderful beauty and blue sky.

Forest fires are very common where we live on the West Coast because we often have very dry summers. Sometimes from the car I can get interesting photos. I was fascinated that so many of those homes survived, thanks to some apparent fire resistant materials used for them. The depth of field was really good at 55mm focal length, so having the blackened trees in front were not distracting. They added to the scene the essence of the surrounding fire destruction.

I would also like to mention this again. For anyone that is handicapped or cannot get out walking very much, if you have someone that would drive you around as I do, consider taking photos from the car as a passenger. I get so many of them, in addition to those I can with "boots on the ground". 😀 Doing it this way is very challenging too when the car is moving at highway speeds. So do not get discouraged...keep trying and trying. 😀 Or have the driver pull off the road for a few quality photos.

Subject: Black Friday Refurbished Sales, USA

Hey everybody. The Black Friday sales have begun in the USA on the Canon website (from what they said). Have you gotten any good deals at the location where you live? I got another refurbished camera with a lens. I didn't need the lens but it was only $50 (USD) more. The other item, the camera without the lens wasn't currently available, so I didn't want to take a chance and miss out with this $300 (USD) savings. I noticed the refurbished Canon RF100-400mm lens was only $349 but I can't remember if it was available. I paid $399 for mine a few weeks back. I did not see a Canon RP that was refurbished at a low price this time. So you have to wait and see if there's something of interest. Go check it out. 😀

I don't know if I got the lowest price. I hope they don't keep lowering it, then I'll know I missed out on a rock bottom price. But hey...some of you guys might benefit. 😀 The refurbished Canon RF 24-105mm F4/7.1 lens was $149 this time. Happy shopping. 😀

Subject: Plane Trails

Yesterday evening, I saw some plane trails that were quite pronounced. I was thinking about Steve, who also showed some of these. So with a quick snap, this is what I got.

I was able to get some flying geese too in this picture on the right side (very small). I waited to see if I could capture more geese, but I had no luck.

The geese were on the right side, but they were very far away. I did see some earlier that were closer, but I couldn't take a picture of them fast enough.
