This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

    Subject: Moon in the Evening

Here's a photo I took a few days ago. There's a little noise in the picture but I did my best to use a very low shutter speed, while I took this hand-held at 108mm focal length. This would have been ideally taken with a tripod or by resting the camera/lens on a flat service, to further reduce the shutter speed and thus the noise. But I liked enough to share. I hope you like it too.

Edit: I forgot to mention.... The darkened skies were caused at least in part, by wildlife fires. Since we had a little rain lately, I believe the fires have been extinguished in our area.

An oldy-worldy street in Norwich (UK). I managed to get a picture with no cars in (they were all parked on the right past the building.

    Alan,

I like seeing the "old-worldy" street of cobblestones. We rarely seeing cobblestones like that in our area. Are those buildings individual residences or apartments?

Edit: This is what I read in Wikipedia about cobblestone streets:

"Unlike asphalt, which deteriorates over time due to heavy traffic and harsh weather conditions, cobblestone roads have stood the test of time for centuries. The sturdy and robust nature of cobblestones allows them to withstand immense pressure and weight without losing their structural integrity."

It's no wonder that these kinds of streets have survived so long.

    Subject: Evening Sky

Here's some more photos of the sky in the evening. These were taken in Northern California and Southern Oregon near the border, while I was on vacation (holiday) a few weeks ago.

Photo No. 1 - I took this photo on my right side, as we were traveling at highway speeds. I had to hurry to get this one and did not want to miss it. We were in California at the time, moving north towards home at the end of our trip.

    Nice shot!

Out of interest, I figured the lighting value according to your settings and got 8 Ev which is a stop or two darker than twilight. Is that about right as you recall?

This is true. there are areas of Vienna that still have cobble stones, including a long road with hairpin bends up to Kahlenberg that was paved in that way before WW2, Getting the stones up there could not have been easy. Many streets in the town where I grew up in the 1950s, Bury in Lancashire, also had cobble stones, with tar in between them.

The only problem I have with cobbles is that they are extremely painful to cycle over!

    Hi xpatUSA.

    Thanks. 😀

I recall that the sun had set or just was about ready to set behind the horizon. It was getting a little difficult to see anything around us. I used -2EV so that the darkness was close to what I saw. The clouds and/or smoke further darkened the photo. I think it was all smoke or mostly smoke, but I didn't know for sure. That dark contrast enhanced the visibility of the crescent moon.

    David,

Yes, I could imagine that cycling over cobblestones would be a rough ride. That's a good point to make for those that like to ride their bikes.

    Steve,

    Thanks. 😀

Yes, taking pictures from a moving car can be fun. It's takes the boredom out of long trips. Seeing that beautiful sky was totally unexpected. But I keep at least one camera with me at all times while sitting in the front seat, ready to capture anything interesting. From the moving car, I got a lot of photos of farms in Oregon the next day. It's tough to take them at highway speeds. If it's on the right side, sometimes I roll the window down for a few minutes. Otherwise I take them through the windshield (windscreen). I'm reminded to keep the windows as clean as possible for photography, not to mention for driving safely. 😀

So a few days enjoying offline time 😁 I'll be posting some photos again.

    @Digirame @AlanSh nice shots again!

We are enjoying our time here in Switzerland, we did arrive after a nine hour drive with some mild rain an a cloud cover but the last two days we do have nice weather with only a few friendly clouds.
Temperature does vary a bit depending on the altitude: 25-30c in the valley and close to 0c or below, higher up in the mountains
We are close to the big three and known high peaks for this region (Jungfrau region) Eiger 3.970 m, Mönch 4.107 m and Jungfrau 4.158 m.
We won't be climbing those three but there's more to see, climb, hike and enjoy 😎

Crappy phone pics from the first day just after arriving:
    IMG_20240825_165605.jpg
    IMG_20240825_160314.jpg

The next day an easy start with a nice short hike through a gorge/canyon and the local forrest close to where we are staying:

And yesterday a nice climb/hike to a small peak (2,472m) called Lauberhorn with constant views at the mentioned three before (Eiger, Munch and Jungfrau) and also we could take a good look at the famous Eiger Nordwand en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eiger#North_face

    Photobygms,

Enjoy your trip. 😀 I'm glad you have some time off to travel. Your photos are fantastic...hope to see more. The last ones are what we would expect to see with the snow capped mountains, but I like the first two pictures showing the gloomy cold weather with the low-lying clouds. Seeing the canyons and rushing water was neat also. The cow looked at you as to say, "what are you doing here?" 😀

You used at least three cameras too (in addition to the phone). On my vacation, I brought five of them with me which was too many. Next time, I think I'll bring only three or four. I did not bring the Canon RP with me, but regretted it because there were times in the evening I could used a higher ISO level. Three or four cameras sounds like a lot but the two Canon M50 Mark II cameras I brought with me with the small lenses are so compact and light.

    Subject: State of Jefferson

While traveling past Mt. Shasta on the way north to Oregon, I found ourselves being in the proposed state of Jefferson. It was in California but some people want to call this area of Northern California and Southern Oregon, Jefferson. That way, the rural farmers and ranchers would be better represented apart from the more populous areas like San Francisco and Los Angeles. Wikipedia describes it in more detail, if you would like to read more about it.

So, I'll show some of this area that I photographed along the highway in a moving car, as a passenger. I hope this is interesting for you all.

Photo No. 1 - I'll start this series with showing you all Mt. Shasta which is within the area of the proposed name. Mt. Shasta is seen much different than what I showed you previously (when I started the vacation and was traveling south). Now it was getting late in the afternoon and there was wildfire smoke everywhere. So it gave it a different look.

Those Jefferson photos do remind me of driving over/through the Canadian prairie somewhere in BC Canada.
Nice views you did have @Digirame.
We have more cameras at hand, we have also the 6DII and two analog Eos bodies (Eos 3 and 1V) and a powershot 740HS available
but we chose what to take before we go out on a hike or day trip

@davidwien we seem to have the simillar weather at the moment here in the Alps, hot during the day in the valley.
but higher up in the mountains it's a bit better 😉
