This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

    Subject: Donner Memorial

This is the last of my October trip. Near Truckee, California I finally was able to visit the Donner Memorial. A party of pioneers ventured west to California before the Gold Rush era in the mid 19th century. They were stranded by an extreme amount of snow just west of Reno, Nevada. What was not mentioned at this memorial (that I could see) was that some of the survivors resorted to cannibalism to survive by eating those that had died earlier. It was quite a tragedy.

I hope you enjoy these photos, most of which were taken in the museum without a flash.

Edit: I did see in the fine print that they did mention eating their dead companions to survive, including cattle and family pets. See the sixth photo.

Always nice to see some history of regions we haven't visited (yet)
As usual 😊again a nice set photos, and with blue skies so you had sun 😎
We did see the clouds break today a few spots of blue sky again, but no photos taken today. We decided to go for a lazy day today.
Tomorrow we will go out for the last hike this year😋

I do have a few photos from yesterday that will follow in the next post/reply

Aw mentioned a few times the last two to three weeks we didn't see the sun. And we do not live at the Arctic Circle, but a bit lower so we should be able to see the sun normally. The last few weeks we did have a thick cloud cover and many foggy days.
But we managed to find dry moments again for a short hike.
Again we decided to stay close to home and visit a local recreation area/park called Baggelhuizeplas
The Baggelhuizerplas and its surrounding nature are a popular recreation area among the residents of Assen.
The small lake is named after the nearby residential area of the city.
And also a small forest area is accessible called Pelinckbosch and at the end of this hike we had to cross a small proving ground/training area used by our boys/girls from the 11th Airmobile Brigade

    Photobygms,

Thanks. I'm glad you like the Donner Memorial photos. Yes, we enjoyed mostly blue skies the whole trip. It started out with a little rain and snow at the higher elevations, but for most of the time it was nice.

    Photobygms,

I look forward to seeing your photos each week. I like seeing all of that forested area with the orange or brown leaves. You got a few nice photos of some birds too. We have had mostly cloudy and rainy weather as well. I should get out more, but I've been busy with Christmas and cleaning up things. We had a windstorm that knocked down a few tree branches, so I had to clean that up too. Work always gets in the way of us having fun. 😀

    Subject: Router Problem

If you all don't hear from me right away, it's because I'm having a problem with the router. It's ridiculously old (way older than its expected life). Often I would power it on and off to get it to continue working (including waiting for10 minutes). Now I have to tap it a little and it comes back to life. It's on its "last legs". I already have a new router to replace it. But in case I have additional problems with it and you don't hear from me soon, I'll need some time to figure it out. Hopefully, everything will be OK when I replace the router tomorrow or sometime later.

    Photobygms,

Thanks. Well, this morning the old router is still working. I don't dare touch it. 😀 I have the new router all ready to install. I just have to talk myself into doing it. I don't know if it will mess up the wireless connections. The wired connections should be OK, although...I hope. 😀

I installed a new router recently. I was also worried that things wouldn't work as before :-(
I finally bit the bullet and finally did it. ... and was pleasently surprised that it was real quick and everything worked just as before, perhaps even better, it is afterall a newer, faster router.
    .... maybe I was just lucky ;-)

The last hike this year, let's see what next year will bring, hopefully some sun for a change 😉
Today again no sun and low hanging clouds with some drizzle at moments.
That didn't stop us, even with this weather it was an enjoyable hike and we discovered and followed a few new trails.

Routers are almost self configuring - but as long as you can get a wired connection to it and can get admin access, you can do anything.

It was a rare sunny day down in Rochdale. So, I wandered down the town with a small camera just to see if anything caught my eye.

First thing was this array of colour outside one of those pound shops. I couldn't resist it.

    H6CF0039-Enhanced-NR-3 (Superlarge).JPG

Then into the town square where the town hall clock tower was being its imposing self. If you didn't know, Hitler ordered that the bombers miss the town hall because he was so enamoured of it.

    H6CF0047-3 (Superlarge).JPG

Finally, the statue of 'Our Gracie' (Gracie Fields, who was born in Rochdale), with the sun shining through her armpit 😁

All photos slightly tweaked in Lightroom (and a van removed from the background of the last one).

    Comments invited.

Cheers - and Happy new Year to you all.

I went for a drive along a "scenic byway" yesterday, and saw some mountain sheep hanging out on the side of the road.
    1000012341.jpg

    1000012345.jpg

When stopping at a remote rest area along the way, I noticed they have this windmill to power the minimal electricity needs of the stop. Also interesting were the "do not drink the water" signs plastered all over the place, with an explanation that the water was recycled and reused from the stop's gray water.

The inside of a candy store along the way.

And finally, a tram parked across the visitor center of an old mine (which was closed for the season).

This is the router update.... 😀 I discovered one cable was disconnected. It was for the printer. I don't know if that cable was loose previously and was affecting the router. Anyway the old router still works and I still have the new router available if and when needed.

It's so nice to see so many new posts. Happy New Year everyone. 😀
