The Weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Starting 30 September 2024 Any Brand

This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

Subject: El Grito Celebration

A couple of weeks ago, I attended an El Grito (the cry-scream-shout) celebration. This was to celebrate Mexico's independence from Spain. This is a different holiday than Cinco de Mayo (5th of May), when they were victorious over the French army of Napoleon III.

I had brought my umbrella with me, so I could stay out in it. I most always have the umbrellas with me because I don't want to get the photography gear wet.

Fascinating photos. Unfortunately, Mexico comes in for a lot of criticism these days and, particularly in view of the recent election here, it is worth remembering the reason for the naming of Mexico Platz in Vienna. Wikipedia has a good resume of that story. I keep forgetting to take some pictures inside the church: I will try to remedy that soon. 😀

Thanks. 😀 I'm glad you liked the El Grito Celebration photos. I did not know about the Mexikoplatz (Mexico plaza or square). I did not know that Mexico was the only country at the time in 1938 to protest the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany.

Yes, please let's see some pictures inside the church. I was amazed how well the pictures I took inside a church last summer were, with my Canon RP. A flash was not needed and everything looked very nice & sharp, as if it were outdoors during a cloudy day. I would expect that your photos with your cameras would also be superb. 😀

nice set again @Digirame, for me (and my better half) the older the cars the more we like them 😉 (up to the sixties more or less)

We still are rebuilding and renovation but the end is near, the kitchen is ready again, we have one toilet that is usable again but not complete finished.
Bathroom and toilet upstairs is still some work waiting, but the contractors think it can be done by the end of the week.
In all the chaos and dust at our home we did go out with for a nice hike. Managed to find the RP and R and the both our 24-240s and the
35mm macro.and with a bandolier/beltsystem with M.O.L.L.E/M.A.S attachments we went out.
Visited the Ooster- en Westerzand reserve near Uffelte (a small village in our province Drenthe) and followed some of the available trails
Autumn has arrived where we live but the weather was nice during the weekend.

That's good the renovation is making nice progress and it will almost be done soon. 😀 That's great you took some time to go outdoors. Yes, we got to get out and enjoy nature. 😀 That's also nice to hear you brought both 24-240mm lenses with you. I want that lens eventually too, but I'm waiting to see if I can get it at a good price. I purchased recently a 100-400mm RF lens refurbished for $399 (USD). It should arrive in the next couple of days. I could not resist the price. I've never seen it priced that low in about a year's time. Right after I purchased it, it became not available on the Canon USA website. I would like to wait until Black Friday to see if I can get another deal on a R series camera or lens.

I just love your scenes, starting with the hawk flying high above and then the photos of the insects and plants. In particular, I like the photo of the damselfly. That really looks nice. I haven't been real happy with my damselfly photos with my Canon cameras and lenses (they are OK, but not like before). I used to like getting photos of them with my Olympus DSLR cameras and lens. Maybe with the 100-400mm lens, they will be better...we shall see.... That's so nice that you have open areas with grass and then other areas that are heavily forested too.

Again, it's good to hear you will get back to normal next week or so with a renovated beautiful home. 😀

Ah, yes...the chestnut. You started this show your photos thread with some chestnut pictures about a year and a half ago. You made me aware of those horse chestnuts that used to fall all around me in our neighborhood.

Subject: Tonight's Sunset

Today I was taking pictures through the windshield (windscreen) with my new lens, during the moments when the sun at times blinded us. This is the new RF 100-400mm lens that I purchased for $399 (USD) refurbished. I just got the lens late today, so I had to practice some with it before it got too dark.

I also took some pictures of wood ducks, mallard ducks and squirrels with it.

Today I was out playing with the new lens. I like it. As soon as I purchased it refurbished for $399 (USD), it became unavailable. The last time I checked they completely removed that lens from the refurbished list. I had been watching for a good price for that lens for about a year. Later I'll get another full frame camera for it, as I like to purchase a camera for every lens I use on a regular basis.
