This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

This is not my most successful panorama ever; but I like the colours of the sunset and the layers one often sees from this vantage point overlooking Vienna. It is made up of three shots.

When I go to Burger King, I usually get a triple Whopper and take two patties home for Monty. But this time he came with us. He can demolish a chopped up patty in a flash!

    Half way through the process:

    Nearing the end:

He also acquired an unexpected taste for fries that day!

    David,

I liked the colors from the sunset too. But in addition I liked seeing the blue sky and green grass, mixed in with the autumn leaves.

Many years ago a friend of mine left a 14- or 28-pound bag of dog food on the kitchen table. Their young Golden Retriever got up there and ate the lot!

    David,

That must have been a treat for your dog. Now, he will expect that all of the time, every time you go out to Burger King. 😀

    Subject: October Wood Ducks

Here's some more pictures of the Wood Ducks, but these are the ones I took in October. The lighting in some places is still challenging. It will be that way, until all of the leaves from the deciduous trees that surround this pond are gone. Then I should have better lighting. I also including some taken with my new RF lens and the Canon RP. I was just trying it out, knowing that the maximum focal length was less etc.

    Photobygms,

I liked seeing the mushrooms. We have some where I live, but I couldn't find any as colorful as you have found. What is that concrete marker? The photo of the path beneath the tree canopy with the people in the background is excellent. Oh, I loved seeing the blue sky too. We may see blue sky where I live today and for the next three following days...then the rains should return.

That Concrete marker is an old one from somewhere in the 50/60s those markers were used to locate underground power lines (10.000volt) used by the NS (dutch railway)
The PEB stands for Provinciaal Energie Bedrijf (translated Provincal Energy Company) and NS for Nederlandse Spoorwegen (dutch railway company)
Those power lines are not being used anymore but still there (to expensive to exavate)

    Subject: White Duck

Sometimes people's pet ducks are let go to live with wild ducks. I believe this is one of them.

What unusual ducks have any of you found?

Hi Alan. Thank you for your comment. That's a good question. You prompted me to do some research, as I was only guessing that it was someone's pet (it just seemed logical that way to me). It was interesting what I found.

I checked again and could not find any white ducks listed as being native to Oregon. It might be an American Pekin which is an American breed of a domestic duck that was originally brought in by China. I read that they also may be considered "escapees". It was only the one that I could see in this area. I also read that they are not capable of flying. So someone probably left it here.

The American Pekin can be a wonderful pet, being friendly, docile and tame. They can be great to have also, to get rid of garden pests. They also could be raised by farmers for their meat, but where I found this white duck, it was far from farms. The ponds where I found this duck were surrounded by residential buildings.

Here's some more information about the white duck and the area where I discovered it. What I liked about this, was that the white duck was found with a dark background so it stood out. The duck was standing on water that was circulated from one pond to another. These ponds are at a park, where the water is constantly recirculated. There's a fountain there also in the center of one of the ponds. The dark background was created by the shadow of a pedestrian bridge where I was standing. I was there in late afternoon two days ago.

What's great about finding birds or ducks at parks, is that they can get used to people. So some of the ducks that visit these ponds can be otherwise hard to see and we can photograph them close. So I recommend for anyone to go to a park and look around for these rare or unusual birds, using you bird guidebook. Sometimes all you need is a 250mm FL (maximum reach) with your lens. But I prefer to use my Tamron 150-600mm lens. But for those on a small budget, try to find what you can get with an inexpensive telephoto lens.

Of course, I got a lot more photos of some birds other than the white duck. But I was going to save that for another week.

Here's a photo of the pedestrian bridge where I found the white duck. Indeed, you can see that it was late in the afternoon. The white duck was found on the right side below the railings.

    Steve,

That's nice to see the orange glow to these trees in autumn. I have found it tough to take pictures like that at that time with the sun so low in the horizon, because of the white balance. What white balance did you use? How did the photo turn out compared to what you saw originally?

    Dig,

I think I was using Shade for the first couple, but like you, I felt they were too orangey. They weren't as yellow as what I saw. The last one, I dropped it back to Cloudy. The last picture I posted was pretty faithful to what I saw. With the sunrise coming up the way it did in scarlet colors, everything was bathed in red. I really liked it. I printed that one out and put on my refigerator door.
