The Weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Starting 5 August 2024 Any Brand

This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

An update on the public transport situation here:

They have pulled up the rails on the S-Bahn line and replaced the gap with a bus service. There are four tracks: you can see the inner two here, the right hand of the two terminates at present just north of the station: the other two tracks (the left hand one is off the picture) are also gone. This part of the line, which carries a heary load of commuters and which normally connects the NE of the city to the main railstation and the airport, will be out of use until the end of September, I believe.

Subject: Castle Crags

On our travels through Northern California, we often see Castle Crags from the highway. It's about 15 miles (24 kilometers) southwest of Mt. Shasta.

Photo No. 1 - This is a picture of Castle Crags on our way home as we traveled north. I only got three pictures of it from a moving car. It was smoky because of the forest fires and the lighting was not good in late afternoon, but I wanted to show what we would see from the highway, something that only can be seen for a few seconds. The rest of the time, the trees are so tall that it prevents us from seeing more.

Photo No. 2 - So since I started seeing Castle Crags from a moving car, it has always got me interested in this strange phenomenon. So, at the start of our vacation, on our way south along the highway, we stopped the car at a location where I could get good photographs of it. It was a little smoky or hazy. Our summers typically have forest fire smoke because it is so dry. Sometimes, although, we can get lucky and have clear skies.

Today we went to Wakehurst Place.

There was a moorhen with a few chicks:

Wakehurst mansion is being restored. The scaffolding is covered by canvas on which is "Planet Wakehurst", a montage of photos of plants from around the site.

I hope the train tracks get replaced quickly. How many miles or kilometers of track are they replacing?

Is this the Wakehurst botanical gardens south of London? From what I can see, it looks like a photographer's paradise. Were you on holiday also, traveling and visiting interesting tourist attractions?

Thanks. Castle Crags is far from large cities. It was those short glimpses of the formation that caught my attention over the years. It's actually a state park.

@davidwien those maintenance works will probably also affect the travelers a lot, did they plan it during the holiday on purpuse?

We did have a bit cloudy weekend, and still got some weeks to go before we will be going to Grindelwald/Jungfrau region (Switzerland) 😎

The weather looks like something we have in Oregon in the winter and spring. But now we are in the dry season. Did you find any grave mounds in Kampsheide? You sure travel quite a bit by either walking or by bike. That's commendable as it's key to finding interesting things to photograph. That will be neat to see your photos from Switzerland.

@Digirame, It was just a few days with a low pressure system with a tiny bit or rain., right now we having a period with temperatures going up to 30c.
There are a few burial grounds still visible (sort of tiny hills).
We both do like to be outside for a stroll, hike or bike ride and enjoy the scenery 😎
Switzerland will be nice (I hope) it has been almost 35 years since the last time I stayed in the Jungfrau region. My better half never has been to this region in Switzerland.

A FURTHER UPDATE

I took a photo from further to the right and at the end of the platform. For some reason, they appear to dismantling everything on this line, and starting over. For another, unknown, reason, one never sees more than three people working on road or rail works, which limits the speed of finishing the job! At the moment they seem to be concentrating on moving the stones from one pile to another.

The distance between the two stations which are currently connected by a bus service is over 5km, though I have no means of knowing whether they are replacing the four tracks entirely; but since there are two stations in between that are also out of commission, I imagine they must be working on a lot of the track.

As to why they choose to do major road and rail works during July and August, I have no idea. It is as hot as hell most days, and the weather is otherwise not that cold or wet between April and October. Apart from the Praterstraße project, which has been going on for 14 months, there are other streets being dug up, having a knock on effect on bus, tram and subway lines that have gaps in them, and making it very hard to get around the city unless you know it well. This is by no means a new phenomenon here: it happens every summer. Replacing tramlines is guaranteed to provoke chaos!

That's how you can keep employed and busy...move the stones from one place...and then move them back. Repeat. 😀 All kidding aside, one often never knows why things take so long. It might be because of the funding of the project and how it matches the schedule that was developed.
