The Weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Starting 6 January 2025 Any Brand

This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

Subject: Snow White Duck

I thought I would share with you all a white duck that I took last November, that was as white as snow. It looked neat with the dark background. It was dark because of the shadow created by the pedestrian bridge that I was standing on.

It's nice to see the fresh white snow. In Oregon where we live this winter season, we have had no snow in the valleys. It's been quite warm with lots of rain.

It's supposed to be in the teens and single digits for the next five days.
I don't think I'll be going anywhere for a while.

It's nice to see the Christmas tree ornament. It must have been quite dark since you used ISO 12800 and F2.0. I like pushing the ISO boundaries as high as I can for fun. My latest camera takes pretty good JPEGs at ISO 102400 with a little fine noise. I'll have to test it some more.

Oh...just for clarification...we don't have to show only last week's image for this weekly thread. Commonly I or others may show recent photos only, because I've found I cannot remember which ones I have already shown in the past. Plus a lot of us are constantly taking pictures, so we always have an abundant supply of images to share. As stated above, "pictures can be taken at any time". We try to be as open & relaxed as we can about posting pictures without limitations (within the rules & guidelines of Dprevived).

That looks great. I remember those days when we lived in Colorado where the car could be buried with snow. One time we had a lot of wind with the snow and it covered the car completely with snow from the roof of our house. There was two or three feet of the snow on top of that car. Oh, the fun days of pushing snow off of the cars with the broom.... 😀 I think there's going to be a lot of colder weather east of the Rockies, but on the West Coast we are supposed to have relatively warmer days. We have sunny weather today and it's supposed to dry out for us.

Snow has melted again where I live, it's a grey, wet and rainy day again.

I like it. 😀 Those are super. That neat to see you out taking pictures in less-than-ideal weather conditions. The cows look friendly enough. Is that a red robin of the bird on the grass? That might be cousin of our American Robin. They like to find worms. 😀 Did you paint that smiley face? I like that too. 😀

Subject: Heron at Sunset

Here's some photos I already showed on another photography forum in part. But this is better in that I show photos from two cameras together, to give you all a better affect of what I saw and photographed. Just after I took pictures of the white duck and others, I was ready to go home. The sun was setting. Then this heron flew by and landed on a rock near where I was standing. I was standing on a pedestrian bridge that I show on the first image. The heron was on the right side of that pedestrian bridge. Well, now I could not go home. So with good techniques, I was able to keep the cameras steady enough with relatively low shutter speeds, to capture this unique opportunity. What was unique about this was the sunset reflection that I initially captured in the background. I've never seen anything like it with both a heron and sunset reflection together and don't know if I will in the future.

I had taken a number of them as shown in photo no. 3, but then I decided to take more of them at different focal lengths (as seen in photo nos. 5 and 6). Fortunately the heron stayed near me long enough so that I could do this.

Subject: 16:9 Ratio Photos

Here's a couple of 16:9 ratio photos I took yesterday. I accidentally changed it in the Canon R8 quick menu. That menu is different than the other Canon menus, so it is going to take a while until I get used to it. This is where I find Wood Ducks. But mostly what I found were geese.
