The Weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Starting 9 December 2024 Any Brand

This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

Subject: Regan Beach

When we arrived at Lake Tahoe last October, one of the places we visited was Regan Beach. It was very scenic and the weather was nice. Since this was the first time I've been here this late in October, the thing that amazed me was the lack of tourists. There were very few people compared to what we would see in summer.

I'm so glad you posted these photos of the cars. As you know, often I find these old cars at car shows in the summer and have posted them on Dprevived. If the Corvette was a 1963 model hardtop, it would have had a split rear window. It's an unique feature that was only for that model year. Looking at the Corvette hood, it must have a highly modified engine. The Rolls Royce looks cool. 😀

I like all of that electrical stuff too. I recognized the pole transformers. Then there are the insulators that I know very little about. So much of what electrical wiring we have in newer Oregon residential areas, is now underground. So we do not see what you show us, except in a few cases in old neighborhoods.

Feel free to describe the purpose of each wiring component for each of the pictures (if you would like). I know only a little about that but I find it fascinating. Here's what I know...the high voltage electricity is fed from power plants to substations for businesses or residences. At the substations, the high voltage is transformed down for lower voltage use. But all the details about that at the poles I do not know or remember.

Thanks. Often you'll see my summer photos filled with tourists. But I liked this time of year a lot without so many people. It was a little different taking pictures of this popular spot in October.

We did have more rain again during the week, many hiking trails are muddy and/or look like little rivers😐
But we did find a reasonable trail this weekend, some parts muddy and a few parts almost perfect.
We didn't have rain during the hike and the sun didn't really show up...

I love those photos taken during less-than-ideal conditions. Clouds, rain, and muddy trails provides for us a lot of what we might expect in winter. It reminds me so much of where I live too. I particularly like photo no. 4. The bird is a good capture at 500mm focal length. What kind is it?

Lots of components in the pictures but I'll see what I can do - could take a while ...

When do try to select dry moments if possible when we do go out for a hike. We don't mind some rain. but when the prediction is a lot of rain we might stay at home 😇
Winters we used have were "real" winters with a lot of snow and temperatures below zero (celcius) but climate change......

That bird is I think a Eurasian chaffinch en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_chaffinch.

A turbo charger increases the engine's power and efficiency. It forces more air in the engine. But it also puts more stress on the engine components. Under the hood there could be a blower or supercharger which also forces more air into the engine for increased power. It also can put more pressure on the engine so that the parts wear out faster. Without these blowers or chargers, it would be called a naturally aspirated engine.

Like for the first image, is that a three phase wiring system with a neutral wire? For residential use, does it tap one of the three phase wires and the neutral for a 120V single phase circuit?

Yes, climate change seems to have affected us too. But there's time that we could have extremely cold weather, so it's not consistent. So far, we have not have had any snow in the valleys this autumn.
