Good morning everyone, in line with the changes in our forum's structure and improvements, we decided to start a weekly street photography thread. In this thread we will share and comment about contributions of forum members. We are planning to start some additional threads to discuss works of inspirational photographers, to explore cameras and their settings on our creative process, to share tips to deal with different issues we might have on the street etc..

    The Weekly Street Photography Thread
Welcome to the street photography weekly thread. We start it on Fridays. We are hoping to get your images and hear what other members think about them.
It is open to all members of the forum; members can post a single image or a selection of images on a theme in a single post. Multiple posts are not allowed.
What constitutes street photography has always been debatable. There are several opinions about it, and we do not want to restrict participants. You can post whatever you deem fits into the genre; however, please be prepared to hear criticism as well.

    Guidelines:
    1. We aim to increase the popularity of street photography and encourage our fellow photographers to be more interested in the genre.
    2. Give your photo a title and include any other information you think is relevant. I personally love to know why you made this photo, what attracted you to make it, and why you like it. But this is NOT MANDATORY.
    3. A single image or a theme-based group of images are allowed. No multiple posts, please.
    4. If you post an image, that means you are ready to hear feedback.
    5. We want to hear your thoughts about others’ posts.
    6. Please keep all posts civilised and polite.
    7. Unless specifically stated otherwise by the original poster, please do not modify the images.

In November '23 I went on a Fuji photowalk in Liverpool. We were all asked to choose a theme and then take pictures based on that theme. My theme was "Not doing that" and there was ample opportunity to find images that reflected it. These are what I found: Your thoughts appreciated.

It definitely looks like she could use a refresh on her old glasses: easy, from £19 😄

Hola Alan, an interesting series. I especially like the last two: the geometric composition of Sally's stairs, with the little tree providing an organic counterpoint, and that deserted table in the middle of that bustling street...

Hola Mike, a very suggestive, sophisticated image... rounded off by those sandals that have slipped into the background 😄

Thanks for offering this interesting share-thread. I don't get many new street photos now that I live mostly in the country, but I have some put by from my time in New Orleans, a great place to do street, and travels elsewhere. Here's one from the French Quarter. I watched this lady dressed like a 1955 magazine cover proceed alone down Bourbon and turn towards the Lucky Dog stand. I had hoped she'd go in front of it but she didn't- I still liked what I ended up with. My friend who was shooting with me dropped his brand new $4000 Nikon outfit on the concrete and destroyed it while I was taking this picture.

I've had energized conversations with photographers who feel you should always ask permission from anyone before taking their picture in a public place. I usually don't ask. I didn't ask this lady or the Lucky Dog man. It seems like once I engage with them, I become part of the scenario and the spontaneity is lost. But it's a reasonable point of discussion and I'd be interested to know what others do.
