The Orange-White cliffs in the Algarve
Glad to see the weekly thread is still going on 😊 I now also have my password recovered from DPRevived, so I'm back in business again.
I’m also back from a enjoyable hiking holiday in Portugal but still haven’t got my new PC back from repairers yet, so these first 3 shots were processed on the old so-slow computer.

This is a beach in the Algave region of Portugal called Praia da Falésia.
These incredible orange - white cliffs are along a 6km long beach with soft fine sand, reminding one just a little bit of a mini Grand Canyon.
The little people in the shot give an idea of the huge scale.

Distortion easily correctable in pp if you want to, but it's a nice shot as it is.
Assuming this is a local guy, it's interesting to think that as a young man, he would have experienced life under the dictatorship that ended in 1974 :-(
Just came back from a week in Portugal and learned a lot from our guide about a country I didn't know much about before. He told us that in a way Portugal is like the little brother of the bigger country Spain, somehow the people in Portugal are a bit more relaxed and a bit more laid back. Reminded me a bit of Austria being sometimes comapred to the big brother Germany :-)

    RAINFOREST
The Galloway Hills of SW Scotland are home to one of the most threatened environments in the world - Atlantic temperate rainforest. This little patch has hundreds of rare plants and mosses, as well as animal life.

Good to see you have made it to the new thread. These cliffs are wonderful. We stayed on the Algarve coast for Christmas one time, and enjoyed many a walk along this amazing coast. There were winter storms lashing the coast just before we arrived, and the spray from the waves was reaching right to the top of the cliffs. I believe it's a noted place for surfing.

Not had a lot of time for photography lately. I have lots of catching up to do with my work, after all my backwards and forwards to the UK. I have done a bit of architectural photography, more for relaxation and a change of scene, rather than any artistic drive. Here are some shots of some spontaneous architecture in the Apennines above Reggio, one of my favourite subjects.

First off Castellaro, a massive tower house, that seems not to be lived in now.

This Tower house in Pineto is in a sad state, as is much of this little hamlet.

Santo Stefano, a couple of houses, a church and a cemetery.

Legoreccio. The long window on the fist floor was once the front door, reached by a ladder. You can see a couple of small slit windows, to enable the owners to shoot at unwanted visitors.

I really like the second shot, with that little stream in the middle. Now I am curious about why this habitat is threatened.

I am always fascinated by these geological landscapes. Sand, or sandstone? A good time to hike in Southern Europe, before the heat becomes a killer.

Mainly loss due to 'improved' pasture and commercial forestry. Climate change probably won't help either. The distribution of this habitat is almost exclusively in the British Isles. Wood of Cree, where these are taken, is now owned by the RSPB. There are other patches scattered up the west coast of Scotland, plus a few fragments in Wales, SW England and Ireland.

Scotland is a beautiful country but just too wet and dark for me. Nice forest, the vegetation and animal life must be fully dependent on the gulf stream. Otherwise it would have been frozen good part of the year.

Photography makes for a good escape.
These little places are great to explore for vernacular architecture. I'm glad we no longer live in times (or places) where it's necessary to use a ladder to the front door.

You should see the distortion in the original shot!
Yes, I'm new to Portugal and rather like it. Been to Lisbon a couple of times, lovely city.
