You're certainly getting out to some fascinating locations at the moment. I'm curious what the carvings in the upper left depict in this shot? I was also impressed with the period electrical cable running above the fern, St Columba was clearly well ahead of his time.

Thanks. Apparently the geopolitical status of Todmorden is a bit complicated. The Lancashire / Yorkshire boundary follows the River Calder, which runs through the middle of Todmorden and the town hall itself was built such that it straddles both counties! It seems the town has been considered to be wholly within Yorkshire since 1888, but became part of Calderdale (wherever that is) in 1974. It does have an Oldham post code though, which would imply it's part of Lancashire, but apparently not.

That looks like a formidable mountain. Spectacular countryside. What film stock did you use? I'm thinking something along the lines of FP4 judging by the grain, but I could be completely wrong.

Neither did I until I realised it didn't seem to be getting any nearer for most of the walk. Once I'd reached the top of the hill I estimated about 10 minutes to reach the tower. Half an hour later I arrived. It's a big menacing thing close up, wouldn't look at all out of place in a dystopian sci fi movie.

According to an article from The Lancashire Telegraph, it means "a pool" and indicates that the hamlet was set up around a source of water.

I agree. Certainly downsized to this resolution there's not a lot in it. I did spend quite a bit of time colour and exposure matching these, straight out of the cameras they had quite different casts.

Nice trip report, I enjoyed it, almost like walking myself there, huffing and puffing. But I can't imagine how this tower was built in old days: to get all the stones up there...

BW theme this week... Film has its character, some look like shot 100 years ago.

For some reason I caught this week's BW vibe when processing images, but this particular photo lost something with BW conversion. Here is colour shot, it explains why I took the shot in first place...

Grain size ?
The film used here was AGFA PAN APX 100, it should have a relatively fine grain with 100 ASA.
...but I also felt that the grain size in these results is a bit more than I would have expected, and so I've already ordered a supposedly finer grain film for my next B&W trip, it's the
Fujifilm Neopan Acros 100 II

anyone have any experience with these two films?

Well I'm guessing, the Nikon Z7 is the second shot, and the first shot is from a Fuji :-)
The first one has less chromatic abberation, visible if you compare the top right hand corner and look at the purple colour of the small branches against the bright sky. What lens was used here?

Yep.

Yep, you're right, the one on the left is some sort of Fuji and the Z7 is on the right. I guess the filename gave that away, I must cover my tracks better in future.

In both cases the highlights were blown, so I think what looks like chromatic abberation is actually just incorrectly recovered highlights around the blown edges.

I've attached a 100% side by side of the images from C1P showing before and after adjustment (Fuji on the left again). BTW, only one of those images is 100%, the other has been scaled to match.
