New camera new headaches :)
New camera new headaches :)
A beautiful scenery. I loved the details of mountain's rocky face.
It is funny isn't it? It was the hottest day of the year today. I dont like hot weather :)
They are very nice, second is the best between first two. The circus one brings different emotions. I dont know why but I found it a bit melancholic.
Not completely B&W but reduced saturation.
This was the hottest day of the year. But most of the summer was like this.
This image sums up Britain today - miserable and falling apart 😕
I just finished reading news and now your post... I hope that Wormsmeat is OK and will be back with those street photos he is famous of...
The last one is my pick of these. The moon looks good all red like that in the "blue hour", and with the stripes looks a bit like Jupiter. looks good and appears even bigger low down in the sky next to those buildings.
A crop of some of the the sky off the top would make it even better IMO.
Random Roundup
It's been a bit too hot to get out on the moors or anywhere particularly exciting this week, so instead I've been out on a number of short walks, including a very short one first thing this morning to catch the mist, which turned out more murky than misty.
All images taken with the Fujifilm GFX100S + 35-70. Processed from individual raw files in Capture One Pro 23. The woodland and sunny evening shots also employed a CPL. The woodland and morning shots were taken on a tripod, the rest are handheld.
Brinscall Woods
This was the first set of images I shot with the GFX. I did take the Nikon Z7 along for comparison (and shared a pair of images from both for comparison last week), but these are just the GFX shots that I liked. Quite a lot of what I shot were ruined with blown highlights as the GFX100S' histogram has practically zero overexposure headroom, unlike the Z7 which is generally just about right when the top end starts to bunch up a little. It does counter this with incredibly deep shadow recovery and vanishingly low noise, so swings and roundabouts I guess. I am shooting with blinkies on now, which gives me a bit more information to decide if I'm bothered about the blown areas than just using the histogram on its own.
Murky Morning
On my way out for the Wednesday evening walk, I spotted this scene from the top of Nickleton Brow.
Getting to know the ins and outs of new camera is all part of the fun :-)
From the first set I like the composition of the first best.
And from the others, the sunny shot appeals most. Those rolling hills, the trees and fields remind me of where I live in Pilsbach, Austria.
Pity the mist turned out murky, but at least you were there, you never really know what it will turn out like :-)
End of summer?!
I guess your title suggest that it is still hotter than normal, for this time of year.
Same here in Austria; we have had a long hot spell and it will continue for a few days yet.
In England they even had the hottest day yesterday.
The signs of the climate change caused by us humans are everywhere.
Saturday Sunset
It looked to be quite a spectacular sunset tonight. Or so I thought as I watched the sky getting more and more interesting through my living room window. Eventually, something clicked and I decided I needed to get out there and shoot it before it was too late. Really, it was already too late and certainly, with just 10 minutes until sunset, way too late to get to anywhere particularly good.
The only place within reasonable driving time from my house was a location along Blackburn Brow, which overlooks canal mill (AKA Botany Bay Antiques in its pre-pandemic life) and the Mormon Temple. Building works at the mill make it look like, well, a building site, so I plumped for the temple and in no time was lugging the Z7, 100-400 and a tripod up and down Blackburn Brow looking for a good vantage point.
Eventually I settled on one where the sun was setting right behind the temple, but I'd dithered around too long and it had actually set. Even so, I aimed my camera and shot a few rounds, ending up with just two compositions that I liked...
The first one fills the sky better, but I prefer the looser framing of the second. Really, I could have done with that cloud band extending just a teensy bit higher.
A circus has currently set up in the field facing the temple on the opposite side of the M61 motorway, so I scurried a bit further along Blackburn Brow to a point where I could frame both that and the temple and took another shot.
2nd shot for me! the sky looks fantastic
This was the hottest day of the year. But most of the summer was like this.
Nice image, you can feel the rain!
Interesting to compare the people on the right, who don't seem to mind about getting wet, with the people on the left.
You even have some famous portraits hanging up here too!
A horizontal crop works as well IMO
Another Liguria
Just got back from a short break in Liguria. I did not do a lot of photography, as we went to the beach most of the time.
I did one little expedition into the hills behind the coast above Recco, near Genova to the little village of Uscio. I wanted to see a curious little Romanesque Pieve, that sits next to a neo-Baroque monster. In 1893, they wanted to pull the old church down and replace it with a much larger one. There were some protests from the more enlightened members of the population and a compromise was made, the Pieve became a state protected monument, and the new church was built. On my visit the new church was open, but as often happens with monuments in Italy, the old Pieve was shut.
Next, I drove a little deeper into the hills, to a pass that descends into Genova. On a clear day the views must be spectacular. I had to make do with these shots full of summer haze. This is the second time I have been into the hills above Liguria Levante. The contrast between the crowded holiday resorts on the coast and the hinterland is striking, with its little villages lost in the deep wooded valleys.
Next time we are in Chiavari, I hope to explore the hinterland a little bit more.
I woke up on Saturday morning to the news that Marocco has suffered a huge earthquake. I hope our friend Wormsmeat and his family are safe.

Seasons turning
I like the quiet calm in these two pictures, the first one is the one I like most.
I just finished reading news and now your post... I hope that Wormsmeat is OK and will be back with those street photos he is famous of...
I hoped to get photo of super moon over the high buildings but unfortunately it was cloudy and 15 minutes after moon rise moon was lost in clouds. So all I got were shots of moon over residental buildings from soviet era (mostly) which are not considered as something worth shooting:
This shot is pretty cool, even with the cloud.
The Soviet architecture is not a problem in this set. But it is worth recording this architecture, before it dissapears. It has a dated charm, maybe.
OMG, the pictures coming out from Marrakesh and the surrounding towns today look terrible. What a disaster!
Hoping the locals find a way to cope with the situation as best as possible and that Wormsmeat gets back OK.Here's a shot taken almost this day 3 years ago today in Mühlbach, Austria. Processed today.
You can't see what's going on down there below, just thankful to be up above the fog.
I love these shots were one is above the clouds.
End of summer?!
I really like this late summer picture with those long shadows, and two lone figures on the now empty beach. One of your best.
Another Liguria
on the road to Passo Fasce, Uscio
The pieve has a lot of charm, sitting there like an old lady basking in the quiet sunshine. I particularly like the one with the stepa and handrails.
Those hill roads look tortuous. And not much better (worse?) for hiking.
