The second shot is interesting. What looks like a modern brick building is OK, whilst the mud brick building has failed. I did some work after the Modena earthquake (5.9), 10 times less powerful, and a building that looks OK from the outside, is a wreck inside.

Anyway glad you are safe and sound.

I enjoyed this set. Lone trees struggling in moorland, always makes for interesting pictures. You text makes the set more interesting.

Interesting. I read somewhere that pictures of aurora are different to what the eye actually sees. Good to see an example. I think a lot of aurora shots we see on the web are heavily pimped to bring out the green colours.

Always interesting to follow you on your walks. Is the Z7 destined for redundancy?

I see Fuji are making modern TS lenses for their MF bodies. Very tempting, will need to do a huge profitable project to be able to afford those TS lenses!

Guessed it was a part of a boat before I read your text. A slightly menacing abstract.

These mosaics are wonderful. I wonder who is the disembodied chess opponant 😁 And what is the mermaid up to?
The sculpted capitals are interesting too, though I'm not so sure about the sumo wrestler!

I had the alert on my phone, but it was cloudy and raining all night here. There have been some impressive photos from other parts of the country.
I have had similar experiences photographing auroras - barely visible with the naked eye, but comes up quite well with a little pp.
I rather like the last shot too - some sort of paranormal phenomenon!

I think you're right. Originally I had more of the orange bracken, but then cropped some off. I would have taken another without the bracken entirely, but the clouds were streaming over so fast that the light was changing every couple of seconds and it faded at that moment. The plus side of weather like that is the amazing spotlighting raking across the mountains.

I don't think so. At this point I'm still not sure whether the benefits of the Fuji outweigh its impracticalities or not. While there's definitely the potential to get higher quality images out of it compared to the Z7, the difference seems marginal and requires a more considered approach than how I tend to shoot most of my images in order to get the best out of it, so I think it's best suited to quite specific use cases, whereas the Z7 is a more all purpose tool, so there's room for both of them in my ever expanding fleet of cameras. At the moment, the Fuji is new (to me) and I'm enjoying seeing what I can (and can't) do with it, but the Nikon will be back out where appropriate.

Yeah, I could never justify the price of those for the sort of things that I shoot, particularly as I'm only in this for enjoyment and artistic expression at the moment, although it would be nice to spin up a bit of an additional revenue stream selling prints or something as I approach retirement age (I'm currently about a decade away and not entirely sure I'm ever going to get there, either due to health issues or the government moving the goalposts - or swapping the goalposts for wickets the way things seem to be going!).

They would be ideal for the architectural things you shoot though and it is highly satisfying digging out tiny details in those huge 102 megapixel files.

The nature can be very harsh. It has been a devastating week for Morocco and Libya. Already poor countries...

I experienced a few around 4-5 , they are scary. I thought they took ages to stop.

Mosaics, particularly chess one is interesting. I liked the chess player's moustache :)

Glad to see you got back safely!
It must have been a terrible experience. As you said ,... "Poor sods"
Did you come back with the originally planned flight, or get back earlier?
