Various pictures from the last three weeks.

Logging arches at Fort Humboldt. Oldest at left. They were used to drag one huge log out of the forest. Drawn by draft animals or a cable from a Dolbeer steam donkey. Later on drawn by bulldozers.

No fog! Looking inland from Gill's Garden on a beautiful day.

A cabbage white butterfly looking for some bok choy to lay its eggs on. It sat still for a moment and I got it.

The Humboldt Rose Society garden finally being set up for the spring.

A smart fish at the Cal Poly Marine Lab. Sleeping on the sand gets him jostled and bothered by others. Up there it has found a place where the rocks conform to its belly and the strong current holds it on the rock. I wish I could find such a place. With on camera strobe and MZ 8-25, which didn't have enough reach at 25mm

I shot this critter up close with strobe on camera and it illuminated its gut. It looks like it had Jalapeños with its combination plate at lunch as the fire works its way down to where it will burn. With MZ 8-25, which didn't have enough reach at 25mm

Some of our lovely fog on the shore of Humboldt Bay. This is not a good fog picture because of the hint of blue. Sorry

All very nice Rich. I like the one with the tracks (those that are left) a lot. If those are succulents, I ain't sucking on them! You would get a mouth full of cactus thorns!

I looked out the window and the tulip was opened a bit so I went out and did a stack. There was wind so there is some ghosting.

    You hosting your images somewhere??

Thanks, Andrew. The tracks are photogenic. That's a place that hasn't been restored yet. The part of the bay I live on has been beautifully restored with only paved paths and bridges intruding on nature. It was much worse than that area with the tracks. There were mills near to my home. Even after they had been abandoned and tumbled down, they left an awful chemical residue. That was all removed, and they dug deep to get it all. Now it is a park.

Thanks for the tulip. I like this kind of tulip. I am amazed that I have got to be almost as old as you and hadn't seen one...that I remember.....but I just had a birthday and I'm catching you up.

I have a couple of albums at Flickr under Zr2che ( sounds like it looks except the e is said as a ), but I haven't used them to post here. The owners of Gill's By The Bay asked me to put some on the internet for them. All I have posted here so far have been entered into this forums software. I tried to find information about the 'use' bar which now appears when I post a picture. I wanted to know the interval measured and what happens when you hit the limit, but I could not find that information. Rich

Assortment is an understatement. Glad to see things are moving forward at the Rose Society--roses are on the way.

    Nice roses too!

Thanks, Andrew. I haven't posted my birth date... as far as I can remember. 1949, on Walpurgis Eve. That is the time of The Witches Sabbath when they honor Old Scratch and re up with Mephistopheles for another year.

This 19th century painting depicting The Witches Sabbath is by Luis Ricardo Falero.
It is listed as public domain so I'm cool. Also, it is a classic work of art and therefore not pornographic, nor dirty.

There's just something about these witches. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I'd like to. 😜 Rich

Quite a tour, Rich …. enjoyed the trip …. I recommend that all pictures on this site be viewed in the Gallery view – it does make a significant difference for me …. Those flowers and the butterfly remind me that I recently went to the Botanical Gardens and I did get to the butterfly house – its too early I'm afraid, maybe later this summer, however I didn't get much as I am having a bit of problem concentrating on photography, but the pictures I did get would be a change from all the birds I've been doing recently …

Look forward to our next tour or birding trip .. whichever ....

Thanks, WhyNot. I agree about the gallery view.
Our botanical garden started a butterfly room just before covid struck. They closed it during covid. I had not visited it yet. I'm hoping they start it again. Rich

Interesting collection Rich. We're all getting a little past birthdays being a time to celebrate. Mine was also in '49.
