    Hi,

You left off the C. It is UTC. Not UT. ;)

That said, I'm fine with still referring to it as GMT.

    We are off!

  • Aug. 9, 2023, 3:46 p.m.

    And done.

There's a couple of minor differences. I've called "DPRevived Discussion" as "Site Discussions" in case we change the name/
I've left Micro 4/3's as a forum for now as I am unsure which other forums the threads should go into.

I still have to do a bit of tidying up with the names (capital letters, sort order etc.) and these will be done soon, but youcan now go and post away.

So, have fun playing. Any big issues, please let me know.

And just so you can see - this was my desk as I was doing it - checklist to the left and three screens so I can check things out as I go through it all.

    Time for a small G&T methinks. 😁

    Thanks, Alan!

One problem, which may be just me being thick: It appears to me that all threads that start with Your Canon Photos No.n... date are now in the portmanteau folder Image discussions, critiques and challenges. Unless I am mistaken, this means that searching for the 13 old Canon threads is difficult, since there is no association of them as an archive. I had expected that you would retain the sub-folder Your Canon Photos to collect all these together within Image discussions, critiques and challenges.

If I am correct, this would apply to all similar weekly threads.

    Or am I missing something?

    Best,

    David

    David,

We cannot have sub forums from the main discussion forums We are only allowed 3 levels and we have used all of them.. The plan was always that all image discussions would go into one forum.

Hmmmmm... The Canon picture threads are not the only ones that need to be archived in this way.

    I suggest:

    Level 1: All Forums

Level 2: News | Image discussions, critiques and challenges | etc. | etc | etc.

Level 3: Your Canon Images (or whatever it was called) | etc (i.e. all the other themed categories that are about images)

Then each weekly Canon images can go into Your Canon Images

    David,

I am not doing that. It upsets all the other forum structure. We have had over a week to discuss this and no one else has said this bad.

Sorry, but that's it for now.

Everything seems to work well at first glance 👍🏻

The new "sectioning" looks good to me and everything seems to be working. Congratulations Alan on pulling it off, it's one of the scariest parts of forum work. There can sometimes be bad surprises.

We (Wednesday Critique Thread) like to keep up with our archives too but have not discussed how the latest revision will impact that. Maybe those of us with these recurring threads can share ideas. We started our 799th edition of the thread today!

I'm wondering if there are alternative tools besides tinkering with forum structure. One that comes to mind is tagging, which I've seen mentioned as a possibility for the future. I'm wondering if tagging could work the way keywording does in Lightroom, to create temporary "collections" of threads as a result of a search. Then possibly exported?? Since most forum software is something of a database structure, it seems like it should be possible, at least theoretically?

There may be some confusion in this section for a while as users posting individual photos or groups of photos for critique or discussion outside the share threads will have to decide whether to post in that big discussion thread or in the genre sections. Hopefully that will sort itself out, but it will bear keeping an eye on. The threads view remains our best friend here to make sure everyone's posts are seen by as many as possible.

    Minnie,

Thanks for your support. It "only" took me 3 hours to do the work, but there was probably a weeks worth of effort planning it.

I believe that tagging is in the plans for the future. The others probably have a better idea of when it will come to fruition. That may be what David needs.

Yes, I like the threads view. And I will listen to feedback and, if necessary, make more changes.

They put the "C" only for Brittisss people, otherwise they would have pronounced:

    "Imperial Time"

but now with a "Convention" ending, they tend to ignore it

All the planet into the Web reasons in Universal Time +/- X

    ( myself ? ... I'm UT + 2 )

but you worked it one month!!!

For me nothing change, it's still a flat "all threads" forum

    ( thanks for caring )
