Welcome to the Wednesday Comments and Critique (No Theme & No Brand) thread!

We are dedicated to continuing the great tradition of this C&C thread because we are convinced that looking at, and talking about images is vital for better photography.

Our tried and tested concept (15 years and running!) is a weekly "peer-to-peer" photo comments & critique encounter, in which you GIVE and RECEIVE.

The idea is simple: you post an image and get critique on it, and in return give other people your opinion of their images, or vice versa.
Any Theme, Any Camera, Any Style, Any Subject.

We are still figuring out how to create the convenience of threaded view on this new forum. For now, let us agree that you post an image with a title and short explanation, and that all comments include the image as a quote. Replies to comments may or may not include quotes.

THREAD GUIDELINES – THE SHORT & SWEET VERSION * This thread does not care about brands. It’s not about the tool, but the image. * Post one image that you would like to get comments on (exceptions: see below). * Change the title of your post to reflect the image’s title. (IS THIS POSSIBLE??) * Look at the other images and give your comments on at least one of those. * For comments, try to go beyond a simple pat on the back or a short dismissal.
Do you like an image (or essay) ? Try to explain WHY it appeals to you.
Negative feedback is OK (we all want to learn), but be polite and constructive.
Try to explain why the image (or essay) does not appeal to you and how it might be improved.

We will start with single images. Re-establishing our C&C for essays will be a next step.

The critique you give is vital.
What was your first impression? What catches your eye about an image? Why?
What do you like, and what distracts you? What would you change?

Fiddle with the image in your head - composition, perspective, color balance, exposure.

*It is understood that unless the original poster specifically states that they do not want an altered image posted that you are free to alter the posted image and repost it in a reply for C&C purposes (no use for other purposes!). That reposted image may remain permanently or you may remove it after a short period of time if you prefer. No copyright disputes here!

*More general feedback is also welcome. Do you know something about taking the same sort of image that would make matters easier - share your own as an example in your reply. Encourage - it is a scary business putting your work up for other people to judge!

And finally, here are some useful hints for navigating and familiarizing yourself with the forum mechanics of DPRevived:
Unfortunately, there is no threaded view (yet). We can’t simply keep images and their related comments together like we used to. So please make clear about which image you are commenting.

To do that, you may make good use of the “quote” feature. This allows you to keep the image in your reply. Excess content can be deleted. The “preview” button allows you to look at what you are going to post.

There is a difference between the “reply” button that sits at the top of the forum, and the reply buttons under every post.

A few threads in this new forum with useful navigation information:

(this applies also, with modifications, to other photo hosting websites)

Have fun and let’s stick together!

My image for this week - I'm finally getting to grips with post-processing layout on a new computer.
So this is not a phone image but one made with a "real" camera...

(In order to explore differences in posting and how this forum treats image files from different sources, I will include two versions of this image: the first image is embedded from my zenfolio pages; the second image is a direct upload)

    Tenerife, December 2021:

Whole lotta reasons I dislike it.

Regarding the titling thing in the rules, are we at the point where we should just title our stuff with our own "titles" in the post?

Scrolling and before I saw the meta info, I thought that was a nice film photo with a tad too much orange. Perhaps it was slightly expired or processing was a tad off or maybe that's just the nature of whatever film you were shooting with. Nope. Digital Good job. Now when I click and see the full image that illusion falls completely apart because the clinical sharpness of digital becomes, well, clear....so make of that what you will.

Ummm, I am not sure if this hurts my eyes, like a slightly out of focus 3d viewer. I will delete it if there is a consensus...

Well, over on DPR we were able to change the title to a post which made identifying the posts with images a lot easier.
    Threaded view was another blessing.
We are hoping for the same mechanics over here on DPRevived one day.

I'll get to your image later, when I can view it on a bigger monitor than my phone screen (that seems quite necessary...)

Interesting juxtaposition --- childhood and the business world of the city comes to mind ... The Zenfolio upload appears crisper to me and cannot be viewed in the gallery view. The gallery view of the direct upload seems to be similar to the Zenfolio but interestingly as I move on using the arrows I go to two other pictures not in this post and cannot return to your picture !! another glitch in the system mmmm ... Also one of my edits fails to be shown I added that the two pictures viewed were from the next two post and included that statement in brackets which may be why it doesn't show .. at least on my screen ..

My little swamp is an alligator camp right now. Unfortunately, they only come out in mid-day in bright sun which is the worst time photographically. One of the devil's bargains was on camera settings which meant that the back gator was a little OOF so I tried Topaz sharpen on just him and it did improve him to the point that he's not that much of a distraction. What do you think? If it's workable I may work more creatively on the lighting issues.

I'm back to collecting swamp photos because right after covid, I promised the state science museum a gallery show on swamps and I have not made good on that promise.

They are not intellectually deep images, that's for sure.

Interesting project and looks good so far ... difficult subjects as they blend into their background ... maybe isolate them by selecting and processing them separately ..... I find that recently i am more often resorting to manual focus which is difficult without that split image Fresnel collar ...

Activity toys on a dreary day. Lots of horizontal lines, including the human. It oozes inactivity. As do the colours. Everything is waiting and hoping. A bit of direct sunshine anywhere and things would come to life. Meanwhile, the dark grey bands control our response.
