Mary's Tomb

This one is a nod to Roel's "Worship" series, and was taken in Mary's Tomb in Jerusalem.

Love the artwork, could study those details a long while. The colorful pair doing their selfie photo adds another oval shaped frame to the array of oval shapes throughout the display.

Absolutely wonderful old tree with intriguing deformations that make it look like part of a Shakespearean play set or a Tolkien tale. (Crop was good and required to get the tip of that finger out of the way! )

Art deco is a favorite style for me, and this lemon colored beauty is very pleasing to look at. Great balance, excellent use of complementary color scheme.

Beautiful color combination, nicely blurred background, and a lovely detailed flower. Something in the morning glory family I suspect. In Tennessee I've seen bindweed this color, but ours are usually blue or very pale lavender.

The light certainly makes this photo. Well spotted and taken. The light is confined to the little bunch of dry grass with no spillover, creating a visual puzzle. The warm wooden floor is the perfect backdrop.

Lovely seasonal sequence, and I love the candles thought they are kinda scary. Glad you were keeping a close watch!

That reindeer is so big I almost missed him! Pleasing seasonal scene with a nice curved leading line that takes us into the setting. Glad you didn't over brighten it like some seasonal scenes, it looks quite nice like this.

That's a terrific train scene, full of power and movement, set against some scenic mountains with a nice sky above. The others are nice too. I like the sweet little chapel but I wonder if the sky might contain a bit more detail that editing could bring forth. Good set!

An evocative image, with that Mary-figure angled slightly away from us and the onlookers engaged in tasks we have to think about to figure out. The profusion of lilies into the foreground acts as a barrier between the figure and the onlookers, separating the venerated from the devotees. The lighting, as in Rich's submission, is a main character here. The image has the feel of a movie scene or a painting, very beautiful.

Quite an interesting revelation and follow up comments. Kudos for the presence of mind to pull it off.

If it became popular in Australia I am sure there are many who would only manage to burn their houses down. At which point the govt would ban it.

My eyes went straight to the coloured circles at the top and same as minniev I missed the reindeer. When I look at it now I wonder how. It is an impressive sculpture that captures strength, proportions and pride. I suspect the lights help show it off which the wire frame alone may not.
I really like the overall balance of light in this capture. No one part dominates which could easily be the case. The darker areas help to set it all off.

I wondered what aspects of the train image give it such a sense of power. For all we know it could be stationery. But I think there is just enough blur - or lack of sharpness - to let us know or give a sense of action. Perhaps the muted colours mentioned by Fireplace33. But I think it's the fact that the raised track lowers our viewpoint somewhat and the angle of the camera pointing up a little. Plausible?

For me, the big selling point of this image is the bright warm red storming towards the cold blue of the mountains.

The golden wall full of icons is impressive, but a photo of just that would probably be suited best for an encyclopaedia and the inclusion of the couple makes it considerably more interesting. The couple’s gaze and arms are towards heaven, but religion is playing a subordinate role at most. They themselves are the subject, as they capture themselves amongst the holy figures. The icons seem to look at them with interest, surprise, distain?
It is a seemingly simple photo, but is full of social comment.

I agree with Minnie on the suitability of the tree for Tolkien and Shakespeare, and also on the crop. The old tree and the gravestones complement each other and make the picture better than either on their own.
