This weekly thread serves as a place for those DPRevived.com members who own Fuji gear to share recent work …… specifically, with their Fuji X APS-C cameras. It's just fine for owners to post images made with their “other” cameras, but the idea is to allow owners with Fuji X APS-C cameras to compare notes, tips, and any other helpful hints.

To contribute your image, please respond to the original thread. Please include at the top your message a title to reflect what you wish to convey. Consider making it somewhat entertaining… it may add some “spice.” In addition to uploading/embedding your image, please tell us a little about the image if you wish. It is helpful to some of us who are less traveled to talk about the location of your photo if possible. If you can provide details such as camera, settings, and processing, that would be great for people reviewing the images.

If you wish C&C (comments/critique) please indicate that in your post. In this thread it should not be assumed everyone wants C&C. However, if you want specific feedback (composition, exposure, subject, etc.), don’t hesitate to mention it. It may be helpful to respondents what your needs may be.

    Thanks,

    Bob, your humble host

    PS…… Post away!

GALLERY OF GEOGRAPHICAL MAPS, THE VATICAN

Hello, Again, and thanks for continuing to endure images from my holiday… I am taking my time processing them but have also taken a lot of images since I got back. Those will come

Last week I posted images from the Pinecone courtyard before one entered the halls ultimately leading to the Sistine Chapel. One of those halls absolutely mesmerized me because of the ceiling. The WB was very difficult to get so I did my best. The ceiling was just magnificent. I posted 6K wide images here so you could get a sense of some of the intricate detail. Be sure to click to enlarge. Too bad on the 3rd, which ended the hallway, had a fellow with his cellphone snapping an image. I did the best I could because of the number of people present. However, there were fewer in the morning than the afternoon. The images are in sequence of the furthest to the closest part of the hallway.

The description here from vaticanmuseumsrome tells it better than I can.

“One of the most beautiful and evocative parts of the Vatican Museums is certainly the long corridor of 120 meters in length and six in width that leads to the Sistine Chapel adorned with geographical maps.
The Gallery of geographic maps, commissioned by Pope Gregory XIII, was built between 1580 and 1585. The frescoes were made by Italian and Flemish artists under the direction of Ignazio Danti, mathematician, astronomer and cosmographer.
The walls of the gallery are covered with forty geographical maps of the various Italian regions, with maps of the main cities. In the ceiling adjacent to each region there are representations of the main religious events that took place in it.
At the end of the gallery there are frescoes of the main Italian ports of the sixteenth century: Civitavecchia, Genoa, Ancona and Venice.
The layout of the maps follows an ideal itinerary along the Apennines with the Tyrrhenian regions on the left walls and the Adriatic ones on the right walls.
The peculiarity of some maps is that some appear to the visitor as upside down because in the sixteenth century it was not a convention to place the north in the upper part of the map.
The Vatican Gallery of Geographical Maps symbolically wants to represent spiritual as well as geographical unity.”

Hope to see a lot of your images.

    Bob

We went to Hallstatt (Austria) last year and liked it so much we went back. Sadly, though one family member was no longer here to make the visit with us so I've included one of the last pictures that we have of her.

Reminds me of my trip to Rome and the Sistine Chapel 10 years ago - long before I found photography a hobby. Beautiful shots :)

    Historical Valley

Not much shooting from side lately, so I went back to the archives to share this photo. It was taken in February 2020, about a week before Covid's first lockdown in Portugal. It shows the valley of the river Côa, an affluent of the river Douro, in the Beira Alta province, Portugal. This is part of the famous "Porto wine country", but before that, about 20,000 years ago, during the Paleolithic, Mankind lived in this area, leaving behind open air rock art that is today part of Unesco's World Heritage. A Park was created to preserve these sites, and this photo was taken by the side of the off-road track that accesses one of those sites.
