I'm going to get another camera body to go with my X-T5. But I'm torn between another X-T5 and the new X-S20 (out at the end of the month).

Another X-T5 would be good as there's no learning curve and it doesn't matter which one I pick up, I'll know where things are.
An X-S20 would be nice as I don't NEED the 40mp and it would be interesting to compare the results and see how auto focussing is between the two models. Oh, it's £300 cheaper, I get another lens (I would get it with the 15-45 one) and it's lighter (which I like).

So, what would you choose? and why?

The answer probably boils down to two questions:

    • Are you fine operating cameras with completely different control schemes in parallel?
    • Do you shoot video at all?

If those are both affirmatives for you, then the X-S20 makes a lot of sense for your second body. And yes, that's also the choice that I'd personally make.

I was just looking through the manual for the latest firmware for my Z9. It's got a feature now so that you can slave other Z9s to a master Z9 via WiFi or Ethernet, control them all from there and when you press the shutter release on the master Z9 they'll all fire at the same time. So now I need at least one more Z9 to try it out.

Leaving money out of the equation, I think there are two things to consider:
First, would the X-S20 add any capability which you haven’t currently got?
Second, would a few seconds of fumbling as you adapted to a different control system be a problem? The will be strong family resemblances between the two, but if speed of handling matters, two identical bodies would be the way to go…

You could get one of a number of radio remotes and to the same with any brand.

The frustration of two different control systems caused by missed opportunities makes me get two of the same. If you like the X-S20 get two of them and sell the X-T5.

I haven't found one that allows you to connect multiple cameras in a network and release all the shutters in a synchronised manner, and even overwrite the copyright notice in the slave cameras with the one in the master. Also, allows them all to upload their photos to a server as they go so you have all the resultant files in the same place.

If you’re happy switching between the two control schemes, and you’re happy with 26mp, and you’re excited by the idea of a cheaper body and more money to spend on lenses, I don’t know why you wouldn’t just get an XS10 and have even more lens money, unless video is super popular important to you.

Personally if it was me and I didn’t want the genuine and complete backup of just another XT5, I’d probably go for something completely different, like an X-Pro for example, so you’d have not only a useful backup but the refreshing change of a different camera altogether.

    I haven't decided. But it won't be an X-T4 or an X-S10.

Bob - just go and buy another Z9 - you know you want to 😁

But my wallet doesn't. It's DPRevived or another Z9. Or I could dump both and get another bike.

    And three better than that.
It's kind of an extension of the idea that a ludicrous frame rate helps you capture the moment. Surrounding your subject with cameras helps you shoot from the right angle.

If you're to uphold that it rather serves a purpose of using multiple focal lengths simultaneously, then what evidence there is to the allegation gets less incriminating? 😁

There's no excess of savings around yet, and I'm not into speculation over specs of cameras to be. Still very curious what Fuji's X-Pro4 will offer.

Some time back, some folks were actually buying all four focal lengths of a Sigma fixed length compact camera series, the 1.5-crop Quattros which had four models, dp0 thru dp3 which went from 14mm to 50mm (actual).

I always like to have two different bodies, allowing me to expand the envelope of possible shooting styles. Sometimes I'm in an X-Pro+Prime mood, sometimes I prefer X-T+Zoom, and sometimes the phone is enough.
