The problem is, L mount is only a subset of Leica, not a natural place to look. Leica M is the main Leica camera, there is also the leica Q (very popular), screw mount, S mount and R mount cmaeras. I really think Leica should be on the same level as Fuji and Pentax. DP review handled all of these in their Leica Forum as well as L mount Leicas too. Those of us who have a Leica L mount (and M mount) camera prefered the full Leica forum.

Leica should be a main brand heading like Nikon or Canon. The L-mount cameras are something different and should probably be grouped together (all three brands).

    Alan,

I hope you read my reply in the other post.
The easiest thing to do is simply have a main LEICA FORUM so we Leica users can discuss anything from compact to full frame cameras.
No need for several Leica sub-forums.

And another forum for L-mount, because yes, there are Leica L-mount cameras (SL and SL2) but there are also Sigma and Panasonic cameras and many lenses that are not Leica, so you can have a complete L-mount system without Leica equipment. No need for several L-Mount sub-forums either in my opinion.

    Cheers!

I will add that I was equally satisfied by the all-encompassing Leica Talk as a sub-forum of “Other”. I had no problems locating it when I first arrived here. My only “objection” was to it as a subset of L-mount.

In a reply to one of my earlier posts, AlanSh has already said that he won’t allow ‘Leica’ as a top level forum without sub fora. In these circumstances, I’m happy with his suggestion in that it gets us most of what we’d like…

Even with many members at DPR, there was only need for one MAIN Leica forum, if you subdivide it they will see very little action. One is more than enough. But if there is a need to create sub-forums:

Leica compact and bridge cameras (D-Lux and V-Lux series)
    Leica APS cameras (X1, X2, X 113, T, TL, TL2, CL)
    Leica Q cameras (Q, QP, Q2, QM)
    Leica M cameras
Leica SL cameras (Full frame with L-mount)

As I said in another post, L-mount is a separate thing. You can have a complete L-mount system with cameras and lenses from Sigma and Panasonic.

Well, then have sub-forums, no problem with that.

OK - it's done. Please have a look and tell me if that works for you (and any praise will be welcomed :) )

if you need changes, plost a reply here. But hopefully, it will just be a name adjustment.

Thank you for the changes. I hope this works well.
Category naming needs some cleanup (capitalizations, equipment vs. camera & lenses vs. cameras), but that is a lower priority as the category names are clear.

It is awesome!! Thank you Alan, there is just a letter "x" besides the Q 🥹

Now I need to figure out how to upload images lol

  • April 2, 2023, 7:38 p.m.

    Fixed the 'x'.

Uploading images is easy. I'm sure you will figure it out. [Hint, look for an up arrow near the top of your post]

Blame the "x" on me as I suggested it. I thought it could stand for Q, Q2, and Q3. However, just "Leica Q" is less confusing.

    Just No.

DPReview did the right thing: "L-mount (Panasonic/Sigma/Leica) Talk"

L-mount is essentially about Panasonic bodies with Panasonic and Sigma lenses. Sigma bodies, Canon EF mount lenses (which adapt well), Leica lenses too. Occasionally even a Leica body.

DPReview got the order right in "(Panasonic/Sigma/Leica)".

The Leica L-mount bodies are largely Panasonic technology, with a Leica UI, and a weird Leica-styled body.

Questions include: "What video settings for run-and-gun?"

The proportion of L-mount users who know or care what a Q2M is, or for that matter an SL2, is vanishingly small. I suspect most L-mount users' comments on the SL2 (compared to S1R) would be - at best - unflattering, to put it mildly.

On DPR there was some talk about subdividing the "L-mount (Panasonic/Sigma/Leica) Talk" forum, to make a separate lens forum, but that was silly, because the forum wasn't a high traffic forum.
