This weekly thread is principally intended for you to show others the photos made with Canon cameras of all sorts: SLR, DSLR, Mirrorless, M-series, APS-C, film, etc. BUT all brands of camera will be accepted, including photos taken with your phone. We do enjoy reading an accompanying text explaining your photo and any special techniques you may have used. Comments and helpful criticisms on others' photos are also welcome: we can all learn something from each other. We look forward to seeing your photos.

A new thread for the following week will be posted next Saturday around 10 pm UK time.

Digirame and I will be active here and are sharing the hosting, but we hope that all will join in and comment on others' photos.

I am sorry that I have not been active and taking photos in the last week, due to the heat, which I found quite debilitating. It has cooled down at present, and I went out yesterday. The skies were overcast.

A month ago, I showed the Neuer Markt in the centre of Vienna, which had been dug up and replaced with a three storey car park underneath. At the same time, trees were planted to provide shade and help cool the air. This is a detail of the photo I took then. Looking in the other direction there are also trees, but I wouldnt say that they have overdone the number of them!

    IMG_6040_1-c.jpg

Earlier this week there was an article in one of the local papers pointing out that the trees had shed their leaves. The gardeners responsible for the trees claimed that this was due to heat stress, and that the trees will recover. But, if that was expected, why plant that type of tree in the first place, when temperatures are rising here, as elsewhere, every year higher? If this is supposed to happen each time the temperature hits a high of 90°F/32°C or so, they are unable to provide the shade that is badly needed at that point in the year!

This is what one of those trees looks like at present.

I thought the framing on this was kind of interesting.
I wanted to emphasize the blue and white, so I chose the Daylight White Balance.

A little later in the evening, I spotted these two deer people:

    img_left tutn_0288.JPG

Then the male did a funny little dance, and threw his head around.

    img_left tutn_0289.JPG

Then he whirled around and went trotting off to the doe to make her "acquaintance".

    img_left tutn_0287.JPG

Meanwhile, two kittens are playing hide and seek.

One has to stop in the middle of the game though, and admire how pretty he is.

    Hi David,

That looks a beautiful area in picture one, shame about the trees, sounds like the gardeners know their job. 😀

    Mocha,

Are the boats pleasure craft, or do they serve a commercial purpose?

    Hi Steve,

When the Canals were built it was purely commercial purposes, now it's Leisure, the only working crafts on the Canals now are the dredgers.

The weather was not perfect this weekend, but between the rain we did go out for a short stroll at a local military proving ground and training area called M.O.T de Haar near the TT circuit in Assen
This proving ground is regularly used by the Dutch 11 Air Assault Brigade and today I used the proving ground to test a new addition to our gear.
( I might have a little bit G.A.S) 😂 The latest addition is one that I wanted to have for traveling purposes.
Today I tested it with the 5DIV but I plan to use it with our analog Eos bodies. I found a near mint version and after using it today I do like the results, might use also on our digital bodies more often.

    Hello one and all,
More shots from Cornwall. Firstly, I want to point out that these were taken several weeks ago, and I am at home. Several comments left me wondering if that was clear or not.
Today's shots come from (mainland) Britain's southernmost point, the Lizard Point.

That's quite a fascinating story - great to have some images accompanying it. I didn't know this was a possible reaction to unusual heat stress. Do you know if a majority of broad leaf trees react in that way? I've never seen it here, but I live in a very rural part of Austria where the majority of the area which is not used is covered with forests, so I'd guess that trees without the protection of others + real forest soil and shade will more likely be affected. Also it would be way harder to spot it here, when trees are seldom standing alone. It's certainly a major oversight, if it would be preventable by planting another kind of tree...

Hope you still have some nice shady places in and around Vienna! One thing those barren trees might be useful for: They might serve as great silhouettes later at night with some city lights in the background... 😉

The panorama is also great - well done and provides some great context. Looks like a really nice area to visit!

Here's another shot from my short vacation in South Tyrol (Italy). There was a theme on a weekly Flickr group called "subframing", so I thought this might be an interesting opportunity:

And finally a test-image for a very interesting old Zeiss lens, the S-Planar 120 mm f/5.6:
