I have the Tamron100-400 (A035) which I bought used back in 2019 for half the local new price and it's been a very good lens, apart from maybe not being super-quick to focus when going from near to far and at times it needs a nudge of the focus ring.

Also managed to find a Tamron 1.4TC demo which was about half the new price a few weeks ago,
They are hard to find as they are apparently no longer being made (according to the Tamron rep in oz).

I also have a Tamron 35-150 2.8-f4 which I bought new in 2020 and is very nice if a little sluggish.

All in all, they are great value for the dollar.

I have an upcoming trip to South Africa so I will probably take those lenses along with my RP as a 2nd camera.

Down the track I would like to get an RF800 (if the R8 survives SA) but that will be next year hopefully.

I agree - it's interesting to get a bit of background and to understand where people are coming from with their approaches. I usually try not to mention too much stuff about the (unusual manual/industrial) lenses I use here though, as I assume it might be of limited interest to most people using modern Canon cameras. So if any questions arise when you see some of my experiments, don't hesitate to ask. I'm always happy to share some details in case.

As I've mention in another thread (where I've listed some of my favorite slide/cine projection lenses I've used), I tried another one yesterday, a Braun Ultralit 55 mm f/2.8 and was pleasently surprised by how it handles colors. Here's the SOOC capture:

How do you attach or mount these to your camera?

I was afraid that my camera had stopped rendering blue any more.
The last couple of days, everything was coming out gray..
But, it looks like everything is OK. The skies must have been milky white with humidity or something.

I'm sure there are many in-depth tutorials on that theme online, but I found a video by Simon (whom I know a little bit from flickr) quite good as an overview:

It shows a number of possible ways, including helicoids and bellows. I usually use my bellows for all my adapted lenses, some of which are significantly harder to adapt than projection lenses. I think you can even buy some of the common projection lenses already mounted into M42 helicoids, in which case the only additional thing necessary would be an M42 to RF or EF adapter.

I love your water drops. I have in the past taken pictures of rose flowers with water drops. Since our summers are mostly free of rainstorms, I rarely am able to do it. But sometimes in late spring I am lucky enough to have the right conditions.

That does happen. Sometimes the sky can be kind of white or gray. That happened a little when I was at Lake Tahoe this summer.

That's interesting to show the sky looking through from what I assume is a window and then not. Is that a black & white photo or is that a color photo where everything looks like black & white?

To answer your question: Yes, that's one of the two bunnies from my wife & daughter, which makes it significantly less difficult to capture them. They don't live inside the house, but have a pretty generous area + their own house outside!

Lots of great activity this week, which I will attempt to summarize.

Photobygms, who was kind enough to take the initiative last week in opening the new thread when I spaced out, presented a walk in his neighbourhood, with lots of nature and green backgrounds. The grey heron photo was particularly successful. The shoes reminded me of similar views near fraternity houses in the US. The EF30-300mm lens performed well, though I know what he means about balance. Kudos to Canon for making the EF lenses work on the EOS R series, but I suspect they really want us to buy RF lenses!

Simplejoy works hard to take photos of everyday things that are disguised so that we cannot recognise them. The coffee bean was an excellent example of this stimulating series. His trumpet photo interested me, as I think is a rotary valve instrument -- but looking at the mouthpiece I wonder if it is actually a cornet. Then, later, more flora and fauna: I havent seen a caterpillar live for ages.

Mocha continued to find fascinating opportunities along the Macclesfield Canal. HIs fruitfly is magnificent.

Digirame photographed lavender in abundance. Gorgeous photos! Was the smell overwhelming there? Also a mural of a "Bambi", which Simplejoy played with later.

Steve T found a mysterious bush that is apparently some kind of sumac. Keep an eye on this one, in case it provides nuts later in the year. The crop dusting helicopter reminded me of the scene from North by Northwest. And clouds -- I think we all had those this week, so Steve spoke for all of us.

Dunlin's emu looked as though he wanted to play and comes really close when enlarged to 100%. Wonderful. Is the last one a Gecko?

Fotoworld presented birds that are exotic as far as those of us in the northern hemisphere are concerned. The white-faced heron has some interesting feathers on his back. How are they used?

I was not 100% happy with my Fernwärme photos and went back twice. I also verified that the EF70-300mm is sharper at the 300mm end than my RF24-240mm. (More to come on that.) Thanks for your kind comments.

I am glad to feel redundant at times, as you guys are so good at responding to others' photos. Thanks!

Personally, I am not convinced that the new forum organisation is ideal for this thread. But I will write more about this next week.
