This weekly thread is principally intended for you to show others the photos made with Canon cameras of all sorts: SLR, DSLR, Mirrorless, M-series, APS-C, film, etc. BUT all brands of camera will be accepted, including photos taken with your phone. We do enjoy reading an accompanying text explaining your photo and any special techniques you may have used. Comments and helpful criticisms on others' photos are also welcome: we can all learn something from each other. We look forward to seeing your photos.

A new thread for the following week will be posted next Saturday around 10 pm UK time.

Digirame and I will be active here and are sharing the hosting, but we hope that all will join in and comment on others' photos.

    Hi all,

A walk from the High Peak Forest Canal over to the Macclesfield Canal.

Still plenty of activity on the water. (Aperture f/8 <> (SS): 1/320 <> ISO 800 <> EC: 0 <> PASM Mode: Aperture Priority <> Metering: Evaluative <> Focus Mode: One Shot <> FL: 81mm <> Lens: Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD <> Camera ID: Canon EOS 70D).

Signs of Autumn as the berries show themselves. Mocha,

You are first this time posting pictures. 😀 I was sleeping then. 😀

I liked seeing some people on the boats, making it "alive" with activity. I always enjoy seeing herons in your photo series. Ah, yes...autumn is just around the corner. We have yellow and brown leaves appearing. I'm not sure if it's normal or if it's due to the heat and dryness we are having. That's great you found some beautiful flowers. Are the berries edible? What kind are they?

I decided to take a couple of different kinds of pictures today.

It was a difficult day for shooting. The sky was filled with a lot of milky white clouds, and sort of over cast. I have read that in Evaluative metering, if there is a lot of white back ground light, it can sort of overwhelm the camera's sensor and sort of "take over".

You might wind up with a picture that looks like this:

    img_left tutn_0321.JPG

which is okay, but I decided to try a minimalist approach and go with the milky white and play off it, so I decided to spot meter off the tree and deliberately let everything else get blown out.

    This was my result:

    img_left tutn_0319.JPG

My camera also has a SCN mode called HDR backlight Control. You can use it when you have a stronlgy backlit scene. It takes three shots in quick succession and blends the exposures into one shot.

Here's the standard picture with Evaluative metering:

    img_left tutn_0318.JPG

And here's the same picture taken in that HDR Backlight Control Scene mode:

    Simplejoy,

Your "small animals" are cool. That often takes lots of patience to find a bee flying near a flower and capturing it. At least that is what I've experienced. Looking at the first picture more closely, I see you got a bee and an ant.

    Steve,

I know what you mean. Sometimes it's a hard decision to make to decide what exposure is best. I try to make it as close as I can for the image to what I actually see. But considering the high dynamic range of the eye and brain, that's tough often to do. I tried once to make a HDR photo recently with some free software (my Mt. St. Helens photos), but I didn't like it. Maybe I should just buy some expensive software to make better HDR photos. But I'm not sure if that would work well either. It would be neat if someone could show us how they make HDR photos with their software and give us some tips. Since landscape photos are not something I do often, it hasn't been a high priority for me.

    Subject: Silhouettes

These are some more photos from my vacation. After I saw the sunset at Lake Tahoe, people stayed around the area as I did. There's just something neat about taking pictures at this time, in near darkness. I had a plethora of opportunities to take silhouettes as we shall see. I hope you like them.

Photo No. 1 - I was on the other side of the fence, a little bit away from the beach.
    Resized1DPR1.jpg
    Model - Canon EOS M50m2
    ExposureTime - 1/400 seconds
    FNumber - 9
    ISOSpeedRatings - 100
    ExposureBiasValue - 0
    FocalLength - 35 mm
    Lens Model - EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM

Photo No. 2 - Again, but this time I think I put the camera between the fence.
    Resized1DPR2.jpg
    Model - Canon EOS M50m2
    ExposureTime - 1/8 seconds
    FNumber - 7.10
    ISOSpeedRatings - 2500
    ExposureBiasValue - -3
    FocalLength - 16 mm
    Lens Model - EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM

Photo No. 3 - Someone told these young men to come ashore. Just before I could capture this, one of the men jumped into the water. You can see this, if you look carefully for the splash. So I had a three person silhouette change to two people really fast.
    Resized2DPR17.jpg
    Model - Canon EOS M50m2
    ExposureTime - 1/15 seconds
    FNumber - 9

    ExposureBiasValue - -0.33
    FocalLength - 200 mm
    Lens Model - EF-M55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM

Photo No. 4 - The rest of these images were taken when I was close to the beach. I don't know if I can say which ones were best. They are all nice, at least I how view it. So basically without one being better than the others, I just see them as being different.

    Dig,

I read once that silhouettes are more interesting when the subjects are doing something.
I think your photos illustrate that.

    Hi Digirame, Thank You.

Many of the boat people love going through the locks, it's a fun few hours for them I guess. Yesterday was my lucky day the Heron was eyeing up it's meal and was ignoring me. 😀

I was suprised to see so many berries already, I think the one's I took are not edible to us humans but the birds will be making a meal out of them. 😀
