Your Canon Photos No. 45: 10th to 16th March 2024

This weekly thread is principally intended for you to showcase your photos made with Canon cameras of all sorts: SLR, DSLR, Mirrorless, M-series, APS-C, film, etc. But any brand of camera will be accepted, including photos taken with your phone. We do enjoy reading an accompanying text explaining your photo and any special techniques you may have used. Comments and helpful criticisms on others' photos are also welcome: we can all learn something from each other. We look forward to seeing your contributions and new participants to this series of threads are always welcome!

A new thread for the following week will be posted next Saturday around 10 pm UK time.

Digirame and I will be active here and are sharing the hosting, but we are used to all joining in and commenting on others' photos.

Review of last week

Photobygms came up with some lovely Spring shots of crocuses, followed by a caterpillar, ladybirds, and the countryside preparing to awake from winter.

Digirame demonstrated his success in taking photos of rural Oregon from a moving car. He forgot to mention the most important bit of advice: make sure the windows are clean before starting off, which he did! Some of the shots were not unlike what I have seen in Indiana, half a continent away. It's amazing how uniform a lot of the USA is.

Simplejoy is still tricking us with unusual angles, and with his fascinating ICM experiments.

Steve took some B&W shots of interesting "furry plants". Can we see some more of these, with colour so we can try to identify them, please?

I posted a shot of the Navalny tribute in Vienna, and of my forgetting to check the settings of my camera for colour, while ending up with a better than deserved B&W photo, which I failed to match in colour later. Wandering to other parts of the city, I was amazed to be able to take interesting shots of the progress of early Spring.

Digirame followed suit -- in pink! Good to see that his Common Merganser ducks are still around and posing for him -- at a safe distance.

I hope to see many more photos in the better light of Spring this coming week!

Continuing with our theme of early spring, I'm starting to see more daffodil flowers. I want to take them as soon as possible so they look fresh. That's when they look their best.

Photo No. 1 - This was the first set of daffodil flowers I saw today. But we were in a rush to go to park. So I did not get any closeups.

Nice close ups! I believe that those with white petals are called narcissus: I dont know why they are not also daffodils,

There are nice indeed, and we also know them as narcissus, we should have a few in our own backjard but right now only crocuses and snowdrops do show up.
The narcissus, tulips, hyacinths and others are starting to pop up.

Another weekend and again with some decent weather😎
We went out again for a nice hike on saturday. Still nature is having do deal with the rain we had (to much lately) so many at some parts trails have become streams.
We went with a smaller gear selection this time
Only the 6DII with a 16-35 F2.8L mkII, the 5DIV with the 28-300L IS were in my little backpack and she used the R and RP with the RF 35mm macro and the RF 24-240 that were in her little backpack.

Normally this would be a nice place for a rest during the hike but now you have to swim to get there 😂

Trail + stream = strail or tream ? 😋

More evidence of Spring here. This snowdrop was alone in a box on the outdoor balcony of the newly rebuild Wien Museum.

Walking through the city, I happened to look up and notice this ornate building. Unfortunately, the street was too narrow to get any further away. Perhaps a candidate for the shift lens. I shall return here.

Another view from the new balcony of the Wien Museum. This time one sees the Künstlerhaus (left) and the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde, also known as the Musikverein (right). Built in 1870, this latter contains one of the world's most famous concert halls. Between the two building is another case of building works obscuring interesting views!

This is a view of part of the highly decorated ceiling of the concert hall, which I took last month.

Narcissus is the botanical name of the genus, while daffodil is the common English name of many species of Narcissus. There are so many modern hybrids that there are no clear boundaries as to what is a daffodil and what isn't. I don't think we should get too precious about the use of the word daffodil.

Thanks. From what I read "Narcissus is simply the botanical name that is given to Daffodils and Jonquils.". I don't think these are Jonquils because they had flat leaves. But I'm not sure; I would have to research it some more or maybe someone could clarify.

Thanks...glad you liked the Daffodils. Daffodils are part of the Narcissus family. I don't think these are Jonquils as I explained to David.

I just love the first picture with the reflections around the picnic table. We have similar flooded conditions in our wetlands areas. I'm glad you had nice weather. Thanks for taking us along on your hike. 😀

That's a nice perspective of the Karlskirche church, to be able to see it from the balcony. The scaffolding looks kind of neat, especially since we know it's not permanent. That's a good example of capturing a precious moment. Eventually that scaffolding will be gone for a very long time. So catch it while you can. 😀

I liked seeing the views of the Künstlerhaus building and the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde building with a little bit of blue sky. That "highly decorated ceiling" is gorgeous. It's beauty that would be difficult to describe in words.
